Bruise Or Contusion (Definition)

Bruises, or ecchymoses, are discolorations and tenderness of the skin or mucous membranes due to the leakage of blood from an injured blood vessel into the surrounding tissues. A serious disease called pupura presents as a cluster of small bruises called petachia. Petachia often appears as many tiny red dots clustered together, and could indicate a problem. ...Read more

Lymph glands: Generalized enlargement of lymph nodes are seen in infectious mononucleosis, malignant blood dyscrasias and other infections. I'm not sure that they would be found on the rib cage itself or on the shin bone. I recommend an evaluation by a hematologist or an infectious disease specialist. A lymph node biopsy as well as other tests may be advised by the specialist. ...Read more

Phlebitis bruise on my arm for over 8 months. Should i be worried?

Phlebitis bruise on my arm for over 8 months. Should i be worried?

Maybe.: Anything that persists for that long, when it looks like it should have gone away, is cause for at least some worry. If you had a phlebitis (vein inflammation) diagnosed 8 months ago and it's still there, the diagnosis may be wrong. Go back to your doctor, or seek a second opinion. ...Read more

Lump under skin on wrist thumb side purple over veins on wrist and down thumb was this a clot took an aspirin lump went down but left large bruise
?

Get that checked out: This sounds like a thrombosed (clotted) vein in your hand. The Aspirin may have helped to dissolve the clot. This could happen for several reasons. It also could be something else. I would get this checked out just be cautious. ...Read more

For a year and a half, burning not itching rash on arms, bruising, now also on legs. Fatigue. Tests mostly negative. Lisinopril reaction?

Need more info: You are a "real trooper" to put up with this dermatological problem for so long. Lisinopril does have a history of causing adverse significant side effects. My best advice is to get a second opinion from a dermatologist. Your family physician may be able to help you in this regard. ...Read more

Swelling underneath collar bone going to armpit area for 2+ weeks, had CBC and ultrasound done, both came back clear. no redness/discoloration. help?

Swelling underneath collar bone going to armpit area for 2+ weeks, had CBC and ultrasound done, both came back clear. no redness/discoloration. help?

Different imaging: The type of physical finding is often times better visualized with CT or MRI. There are many structures in this area that can be a cause for this swelling. Especially lymph nodes. Muscle injury blood vessels all are there. Ultrasound is of limited value for an initial investigation especially when you are not sure of the cause. Talk to you doctor for more help. ...Read more

Lump may be a node: Some infections, esp viral, or localized in origin, from right oral area could cause post auricular lymphadenopathy. Antibiotics may work if acute or common bacterial as cause. Have someone examine cause salivary glands are also near that area. Mildly high platelets can be due to infection, blood loss, drugs, etc and may not be related to lump. Both my doc see lamp on the left breast, pain to touch but don't show up on ultrasound should i worry about it?

Both my doc see lamp on the left breast, pain to touch but don't show up on ultrasound should i worry about it?

If your doctors: feel a lump, it is still a concern even if the ultrasound shows nothing. Neither mammography nor ultrasound are 100% sensitive. A small percentage of breast cnacers are found only on physical examination. So, it may very well turn out to be benign, but you should probably talk to your doctor about the next steps. ...Read more

I have swollen nodes on backs on thighs, inner thighs, groin, stomach, under arms. Some are painful, some not, for 6 months. Blood tests came back normal.?

Blood tests came back normal.?

Further eval: F/u with your md and see if there is other explanation. There are many things that can cause lymph gland enlargement- like infection, autoimmune disease, malignancy etc. Since i dont know what blood tests you have i can't make any comment about that. Also, depending on the size of lymph glands and your history etc- you md should decide whether you need a ct scan or biopsy of ln or other test. ...Read more

I had blood drawn from my upper forearm for basic testing. For 3days now, the needle site is swollen golfball size, but so is the vein above my wrist?

I had blood drawn from my upper forearm for basic testing. For 3days now, the needle site is swollen golfball size, but so is the vein above my wrist?

Arterial puncture?: It sounds like the blood was drawn by mistake from an artery instead of a vein. It happens sometimes, especially in persons with hard-to-find veins. Quite a bit of blood can leak from an artery; you can expect bruising in the next 1-2 days. Usually not serious unless pale, cold finger(s) or lots of pain. But tell your doctor, who probably will inform the blood draw personnel; they'll want to know. ...Read more

Sore, swollen lymph nodes under my right arm for 8 months. Spread to groin, & behind both knees. Ct scan neg. Had two sonograms under right arm, but surgeons say nodes not big enough to biopsy?

Sore, swollen lymph nodes under my right arm for 8 months. Spread to groin, & behind both knees. Ct scan neg. Had two sonograms under right arm, but surgeons say nodes not big enough to biopsy?

May need 2nd opinion: Sore lymph nodes are usually inflammatory and not malignant. I'm assuming that your nodes are less than 1 cm in size if your surgeon says they are too small to biopsy. Malignant nodes usually grow slowly to greater than 1cm. That is not an absolute rule and biopsy can be considered if nodes are persistent and are otherwise unexplained. If they persist and are concerning, get another opinion. ...Read more

Painful lump under nipple. Negative mammo and u/s. Both md and radiologist felt lump but cant see on scan. No answer on pain and lump, should i worry?

A: Palpable finding in the setting of a negative mammogram and ultrasound has a very low likelihood of malignancy. However, it cannot be ignored. A breast MRI may be useful in this setting. Alternatively, if the clinical exam remains suspicious, biopsy may be indicated. Talk to your doc about the options. ...Read more
