Hi my best friend took a test and tested positive for chlamydia. Should she tell her boyfriend?

Hi my best friend took a test and tested positive for chlamydia. Should she tell her boyfriend?

Yes: Chlamydia is a sexually transmitted disease. She should tell her partner and should not have sex with him until they have both been treated and waited an additional 2 weeks. If he is not treated, she could get it again. Chlamydia may affect her ability to get pregnant in the future because in some women it can block their tubes. ...Read more

Girlfriend tested positive for chlamydia but I tested negative. Only been with each other. How can that happen?

Girlfriend tested positive for chlamydia but I tested negative. Only been with each other. How can that happen?

Not unusual: It's common to find chlamydia in only one person in a couple. You might still have it; the test misses 5-10% of infections, especially on urine. Chlamydia clears on its own over time, maybe happened before you were tested. It can be carried for months, so maybe she was infected before you were together. Or you had an antibiotic for something else. Or someone had another partner. You still need Rx. ...Read more

I got tested positive for chlamydia, and when informing my ex boyfriend about this, he got tested and it said negative. How?

What type of test?: What type of test did he have? If it was an antibody test, it may have been too soon to test. It would be prudent for both of you to be treated at the same time. See this site for more info.

I have been tested positive for chlamydia I have not cheated on my boyfriend of 2 years and he swears he's been faithful could the test be wrong?

I have been tested positive for chlamydia I have not cheated on my boyfriend of 2 years and he swears he's been faithful could the test be wrong?

Well..: Unless you have a previous negative test to rely on, there is no way to know when you were infected. It is often asymptomatic. The infection was acquired in one of these ways. 1) you got it from a previous or another current partner (which you say you don't have) 2) he got it from a previous or another current partner (which he says he doesn't have) You both need treatment. If doubts, retest. ...Read more

I recently tested positive for chlamydia, I took the medication went back 3 weeks later and tested positive again, my partner tested negative, how?

I recently tested positive for chlamydia, I took the medication went back 3 weeks later and tested positive again, my partner tested negative, how?

Couple of reasons: First of all you may have an infection that is not picked up on a test (so theoretically he could still be positive). Also sometimes the medicine does not work. Also some tests take more time to become negative. They are DNA based tests and even though the infection is gone it may take a little longer time to show up negative ...Read more

I tested positive for chlamydia, but my boyfriend tested negative in two different tests. Did I have a false positive?

I tested positive for chlamydia, but my boyfriend tested negative in two different tests. Did I have a false positive?

Not necessarily: It's common to find chlamydia in only one person in a couple. False pos tests are rare; probably your test is accurate but bf's tests maybe false neg. Or you had it first and he was not yet infected. Or he had chlamydia that cleared before he was tested. Or he could have been treated but not told you; or maybe had an antibiotic for something else that cured his chlamydia. You both must be treated. ...Read more

Hello, I am a virgin, I tested positive for Chlamydia. My boyfriend has tested negative, could this be a false positive?

Hello, I am a virgin, I tested positive for Chlamydia. My boyfriend has tested negative, could this be a false positive?

More info needed: Something doesn't compute. Nearly impossible for a virgin (no penile-vaginal sex) to have chlamydia, and also unlikely your boyfriend gave it to you. His negative test makes sense, but your positive one doesn't. OTOH the standard nucleic acid amplification tests (NAAT) are very accurate. Please add comment or a new question with more info: confirm you're female, exact tests done, sexual exposures. ...Read more

I took the one time dose of azithromicin 3 mos ago; I was still tested positive for chlamydia. Why is this? What happened?

I took the one time dose of azithromicin 3 mos ago; I was still tested positive for chlamydia. Why is this? What happened?

Rx fail, reinfection: This isn't rare. 5-10% of people with chlamydia have new positive tests after 3-6 months. That's why retesting is recommended. Either you are reinfected (if sexually active and potentially exposed) or treatment failed, which happens 2-3% of the time with azithromycin. Your current partner (s) need to be tested and treated, and you need re-treatment, probably with doxycycline, not azithro. ...Read more

I was tested positive for chlamydia last year and got rid of it! I never had a full test though. Would I know if I had it by now?

Probably yes, but...: If you had symptoms at the time (usually a discharge from the penis, with or without mild discomfort urinating), and they have cleared up, probably you were cured. However, the treatments are not perfect, and everybody with chlamydia is recommended to have a follow-up lab test (urethral swab or urine) 3-6 months after treatment. Contact your doctor or clinic to arrange for testing. Good luck! ...Read more

My partner tested positive for chlamydia and me negative. 4 years together is it possible they can go back and check if this was a false positive?

My partner tested positive for chlamydia and me negative. 4 years together is it possible they can go back and check if this was a false positive?

What type of test?: Did he get treated? It is likely that he had infection and was treated effectively and is no longer carrying the organism. He may still have antibody to chlamydia but not the organism. It would not do any harm to get retested by the Chlamydia nucleic acid. See this site for info.

I was tested positive for chlamydia and had some symptoms. I was treated, told my boyfriend to get tested however he tested negative. Confused, Help!!

He must be treated: Men do have a higher false negative rate then women. However, much more common, men will tell their partner they didn't have it because they want to deflect any suspicion they are having sex outside of the relationship. Irrespective of his test result watch him take the medication and if he wasn't treated and you've had unprotected sex since treatment, you will likely be positive again. ...Read more

I was tested positive for chlamydia but my recent partner was tested negative and I had one unprotected partner before him how am I the only positive 1?

Quite common: This happens a lot. Your partner was infected but his immune system cleared it before testing. Or he took an antibiotic (maybe for something else) and it cured him before testing. You had it from distant past partner and current partner was lucky and didn't catch it. The tests miss some infections. Or he just wasn't telling the truth. Most important: he needs treatment even w/ negative test. ...Read more

I tested positive for chlamydia 2 months ago & got treated w 4 pills all at once, haven't had sex since. Could I still have it?

Probably not if...: The 4 pills totaled 1000mg of azithromycin. Typically that regiment is recommended by CDC and has a failure rate of under 3%.
If you have a vaginal discharge and/or fever, you should have that checked out regardless of what you took in the past.
Good luck and remember, having unprotected sex with a partner who has not been fully treated could expose you to chlamydia all over again. ...Read more

I just tested positive for chlamydia How will I know if it's gone?? And also can you still have babies?? And can it reinfect you?

Recurrence possible: Like strep throat, you can get chlamydia as often as you are exposed to an infected partner. The germ can get into your Fallopian tubes and cause enough scarring to make you sterile, but not all cases end up that way. The germ is relatively easy to kill with treatment. It would be good to share your concerns with your doc and discuss ways you can best preserve your fertility. ...Read more

If tested positive for chlamydia and its found high in the blood what does it mean? Is the person suppose to get on a traetment right away?

You should.: This is likely an std or sexually transmitted disease, and if untreated, it can lead to urethritis, epididymitis, and lymphogranuloma venereum. It is treated with tetracycline or doxycycline. There are other forms like c. Psitticosis from birds and c. Pneumoniae from people that infects the lungs.
