Test Results Normal On Kidney Ultrasound
I was sent to get a blood test because of kidney stones that a sonogram revealed I have. My results show that my MPV is high at 12.7 Is that normal?
MPV=mean platelet volume
This is a little used value in thehemograom, with only weak correlation with disease states. Like red cells, younger platelets tend to be bigger, and stress reactions may prompt earlier release from the marrow. Many possible causes, but little utility in isolation. ...Read more
An ultraound, also known as a sonogram, is a painless and relatively inexpensive imaging test that utilizes sound waves instead of ionizing radiation. There are no side effects. Ultrasound can give us two-dimensional, and in some applications three-dimensional, images of structures and organs in virtually any part of the body. In addition to diagnostic uses, such as evaluating abnormalities in the abdomen, pelvis, and breast, ultrasounds are commonly used to guide needle and catheter placement in a variety of surgical ...Read more
What do you mean by the result of my ultrasound and "normal sized kidneys with diffuse parenchymal changes bilateral?
Medical renal diseas: Ultrasound exam of kidneys can show dilatation of collecting system or hydronephrosis or medical renal disease involving parenchyma usually with increased echogenicity, brighter than normal. Sounds like possibly some medical problem as opposed to obstructive problem. Medical renal disease correlated with blood tests of function of kidneys. ...Read more
Hi, I have had fevers and anemia (94g/l) for 2 years. I have protein+1 in my urine but my acr test was normal and my kidney ultrasound was normal.?
Problems: Your anemia (a) is due to something. Are you losing blood, is your marrow not making red blood cells, do you have a chronic disease, do you have hemolysis of cells, or do you have a hemoglobinopathy? What does your doc say about your a? Your proteinuria needs to be quantified with a 24 hour urine collection that will also reveal your kidney function. Have your physician get some blood work also. ...Read more
Ultrasound results showed Cortical Cysts on rt. Kidney. New development as I've had many tests on my kidneys. Is this a concern?
Cyst or cysts?: The answer depends on the number of cysts (mainly) as well as its / their size, location, characteristic (s), etc. Use HealthTap Prime to upload pictures of the kidney to get a better understanding. In general, a single "solitary" cyst isn't worrisome - anyone can get 1. However, if multiple develop, or if there is a family history of aneurysms & the like, then this could prompt concern & screening ...Read more

In my kidney ultrasound the result is normal size of kidneys with bilateral diffuse parenchymal disease, normal sonogram of the urinary bladder.
Not sure: What the question is, but there are numerous potential causes for abnormal appearing kidneys on ultrasound. Best to speak with your doctor about the results. The results have to be interpreted in the context of your entire clinical picture, the appearance on ultrasound is entirely nonspecific. ...Read more
Can u have kidney failure bec of urination frequency while ur kidney ultrasound resulted to normal and creatinine result is low? Appreciate help.
WBC 45/hpf in urine. No symptoms, urine culture negative, kidney function tests normal, normal ultrasound. Why is it high?
A lot of lower back pain ultrasound showed free fluid and enlarge kidney blood tests were normal I'm always exhausted does this explain the tiredness?
Need work up: Need additional testing as to why have ascites (free fluid). Liver, kidney and heart disease are the usual culprits. Enlarged kidney is a relative term. Would purse testing. Treatment would depend on cause of the fluid gain. A blood work, urine test and physical exam should offer insight. Often patients need diuretics (water pills) to get rid of fluid gain. Establishing cause is KEY. ...Read more
30 yr old female. Had renal ultrasound for micro hematuria. Left ureter jet wasn't firing. Kidney blood test normal. Could this be cancer?
Blood in urine: It is not likely that you have a cancer. I see you are taking anticoagulant meds. This can predispose to hematuria. Given the ultrasound finging of what could be slowed urine passage thru one ureter, coupled to microhematuria, I recommend further dialogue with your docs. An IVP or better, a CT-IVP is a valuable next test. ...Read more
Drink enough, don't pee a lot. Kidney, heart, liver all normal via urine and blood tests. Kidney ultrasound normal. Do I need 24- hour urine volume or other tests? No other symptoms but concerned.
Probably not.: If your blood tests for kidney function and an ultrasound of the kidneys are both normal, I doubt that your doctor would want to do further testing of your kidneys for now. As I'm sure you're doing, you should be drinking plenty of fluids. Contact your doctor if you develop any new symptoms in the meantime. Good luck. ...Read more

My kidney function was not so good 5 months ago, but still in normal range, now on ultrasound, one kidney is 100mm and other 90mm, is this normal?
Normal size: The renal length varies with height and weight and decreases slowly with age. Right kidney is usually slightly smaller than the Left. Normal size ranges from 9-12 cm (90-120 mm) and the difference in size should not exceed 2 cm. **So the size of the kidneys is normal. Besides size the texture of the kidney (Its "Ecogenicity") is often increased in chronic renal disease. ...Read more

The kidney is responsible for excreting waste and maintaining salt and water balance among many other functions. These are performed by special cells with enzymes/proteins within the kidney at an ultrastructural level
the function of the kidney may be reduced even if the ultrasound is normal. Ultrasounds are useful to detect size and shape of kidneys and see if the urine flow is blocked. ...Read more
I had a ultrasound of my bladder and kidneys and the report said "Unremarkable Scan" but it said "under-distended bladder" so would they see that ok?
It depends: How under distended the bladder was and what your clinician was looking for. If your doc was looking for things like bladder outlet obstruction, an undistended bladder pretty much rules that out. If they are looking for things like bladder wall thickening, a collapsed bladder might make that impossible to see. But if the bladder is at least partially distended, usually the scan is ok. ...Read more
What could cause thinning of one kidney, from ultrasound. Nothing else found in results. Blood work fine.
Scarring or atrophy: Thinning is loss of renal parenchyma or the tissue that makes the urine. Silent loss could be congenital or from reflux as a child. Adult causes are from infections or infarctions (loss of blood flow). Suspect that you have had recurrent infections. Should rule out kidney stones or other causes of repeat infections. ...Read more

At my 20 week ultrasound scan they said they were unable to see the left kidney, do they need to repeat it or do another test?
Repeat post partum: The absence of one kidney is entirely compatible with good health. It is possible that another scan will show normal anatomy. After delivery a repeat scan to confirm the first is a good idea, couple this with a check of your overall kidney health and a discussion of risks to the kidneys from lifestyle and disease states, with your physician. ...Read more

Hi I recently had a kidney ultrasound and the result was that there is mild prominence of calyces in the right kidney suspicioua for mild hydronepheos?
I have been diag w/ ic, when I went to a urolgist about my kidneys, due to an ultrasound tht showed hydronephrosis. Ctscan normal? Inpain
Probably ok, but...: Ic is usually diagnosed by good history, physicals, ua, voiding pattern, voiding chart, etc. And rarely requires renal ultrasound. Once ultrasound shows "something" - hydronephrosis, so ct is done and normal. So, I would ignore the concern about the kidney, but focus on the concern over the bladder and other pelvic organs plus GI systems. So, with these in mind, go to see expert for detailing... ...Read more
Easy and safe: Ultrasound is very safe and easy, and it can tell you if there is something wrong with your kidney (stone, dilated collecting system, etc). It can also look at the liver, if needed, at the same time. It is an excellent first step to visualize a problem. If you get an answer, you're done, and you don't have to go through a ct, mri, etc. ...Read more

just want to ask some details regarding the result of my ultrasound "Hyperchoic solid mass size 5.9CM x 2.4 cm x 4.3 cm adjacent to middle kidney?
Difficult: To get specific without additional details. In general, uniformly hyperechoic well defined renal masses usually turn out to be benign fat-containing tumors called angiomyolipomas (AML). However, sometimes malignant lesions can have a similar appearance. Generally CT and/or MRI would be the next step, AMLs have a very typical appearance on those modalities. Talk to your doc about next steps. ...Read more

I needed a full bladder for an ultrasound. As I was waiting I notice that my kidneys started to ache is that normal when a bladder is completely full?
