Can you tell me more about cardiac perfusion test and scan?

Can you tell me more about cardiac perfusion test and scan?

Perfusion scans: The main risks to these studies relate to the exercise stress used and to the radiation exposure. In general both are very well controlled and the complications and negative outcomes to these studies are very few and uncommon in good labs. The commonest side effects are with Persantine and Adenosine used to simulate exercise. Regadenoson a newer agent has few side effects. ...Read more

Bruise comes and goes, same spot for 6 mo. Now on left arm. Had CBC, platelet, clotting test, cardiac workup, normal. Do not take aspirin. Thoughts?

Trauma: Brusises result from a local area of trauma to the skin. When taking anticoagulants or if clotting mechanisms are off, they help with extent of bruising but do not initiate the process. If the bruise is in the same site look for what might cause the problem like pressure against the site when sleeping or sitting at the computer. ...Read more

Nuclear stress test and cardiac coronary CT angiogram, which do you recommend?

Depends on situation: Nuclear stress test involves looking at perfusion of heart for defective areas representing coronary artery disease looking for areas of permanent damage versus areas that are reversible possible related to area of coronary narrowing. Coronary ct angiogram looks at anatomy of coronary arteries looking for areas of narrowing and blockage. Answer depends on information physician needs and insurance. ...Read more

Is nuclear stress test or Cardiac CTA better for ruling out clogged arteries? My nuclear test was clear but they couldn't do CTA due to heart rate.

Is nuclear stress test or Cardiac CTA better for ruling out clogged arteries? My nuclear test was clear but they couldn't do CTA due to heart rate.

Nuclear stress test: The nuclear stress test is better because (1) it is a functional test - your heart is actually "stressed" to beat harder, & (2) you can do it at any heart rate (as you've seen). The cardiac CTA only tells you anatomy - whether or not there is calcium in the arteries - not how your heart functions. Not all plaques contain calcium, either, so cardiac CTA has false negatives also. Talk to your doctor ...Read more

Shooting pains: Sharp, shooting, fleeting pains in the chest, often aggravated by a deep breath, are frequently due to pinching of intercostal nerves or muscles which run between ribs. Are you performing any exercises or activities which put strain on the rib cage? Are you experiencing cramps in other areas of the body? If so get checked for deficiencies of calcium, magnesium and potassium. Discuss with your MD ...Read more

I read some articles of SCA in internet... now I am worried. Though my all cardiac test results are normal... how can I get rid of the worry? No hist

Unwanted thoughts: The fear of dying suddenly is common even in healthy folks and it's a great credit to you that you recognize that in your case, it's not rational. Simply talk with someone sensible about it -- and how you feel about life generally. Each of us decides how we will deal with the knowledge of our mortality. This may be the real question here -- and only you can find the answer that's for you. ...Read more

Spect images demonstrate inferior and apical reversibility from my nuclear stress test. Is a cardiac catherization must be done?

Spect images demonstrate inferior and apical reversibility from my nuclear stress test. Is a cardiac catherization must be done?

Not enough data...: Inferior ; apical reversibility means there is some ischemia in those regions. Without seeing the images it is difficult to tell how much. If there is very mild ischemia, some cardiologists may decide to do medical management (only medicines). If there is any significant amount of ischemia, cardiac catheterization is usually done. Again, it depends on the clinical scenario. Not enough data. ...Read more

Can heart attack happen to a non smoker 30 y male with all normal cardiac test results and no fam hist, have anxiety... no symptom but worried..

Highly unlikely: While nothing is impossible, a heart attack is highly unlikely in a 30 year old with normal cardiac tests, a negative family history, and no symptoms. It sounds like your unfounded anxiety is the problem you need to deal with and not the risk of cardiovascular disease at this point. ...Read more

Anxious person/heart flutters everyday. Lst night felt BIG flutter took breath away for a sec. Every cardiac test normal, 2nd opinion? Gettn scared

At 26, heart issues: Are not likely. But it's good your test is normal. This may be a panic attack or anxiety. But they are both serious and feel awful - get a referral for CBT psychotherapy where you can learn skills to avoid, reduce and manage anxiety. You can also learn more about yourself and how to take better care of the only you you've got. Good luck. ...Read more

Normal stress test, Echo and cardiac CTA - can I be 100% certain nothing is wrong with my heart?

Yes and No: You can be extremely sure (nothing in science is 100%) that your coronary arteries are clean and your heart is functioning normally. MACE (major adverse cardiac events) in patients with normal CTA are nonexistent for 2 years. Having said all that, there are cardiac diseases that would not show up on the tests you have had. Cardiac amyloidosis and sarcoidosis, myocarditis, ARVD and conduction ...Read more

See PMD: Several factors come into play...coronary Vaso- spasm, congenital anomalies of heart structure, use of nicotine/ coccain/other vasoactive drugs. Does sharp pain in my mid back and shoulders mean cardiac problems? The muscles hurt my back when I lift my arms. Neg cardiac test 1 yr ago. Anxiety?

No: Heart pain never hurts just the back and shoulders- it may radiate to the back when it starts in the chest and becomes severe. The observation that lifting your arms provokes it is a good indication that the pain is muscular (not nerves). Rest, heat, and analgesics (like ibuprofen) will most likely help. Avoid heavy lifting and try to maintain good posture (i.e. avoid spells of leaning forward) ...Read more
