VPCs: Vpcs can be no big deal or sometimes they are a big deal. Generally an otherwise well person with no known cardiac abnormality doesn't need to worry. In some people hormonal states like early diabetes or pcos can cause frequent vpcs. Your dr. Probably wants to make sure there is no cardiac abnormality causing your vpcs. ...Read more

Is there anything that will cause a false neg HIV test? Meds? Stress? Anxiety? Fasting? Anything?

Is there anything that will cause a false neg HIV test? Meds? Stress? Anxiety? Fasting? Anything?

Yes: Standard HIV screening tests actually test for the presence of antibodies that the body makes to fight the HIV virus. False negatives are most commonly due to testing too soon after exposure. The period of time for the body to make antobodies is called "the window period". It varies in each person, but it is usually between 3 to 6 months. ...Read more

Anyone herd of detect5 pregnancy test?

Yup: I'm not impressed... I like the idea of having a test which easily tells you if your HCG level is high enough to see a normal pregnancy on ultrasound or if levels are going up, but this test has too broad a range, still needs to be interpreted, and is not easy to figure out. It's easier to see your doc if you have a high risk pregnancy that requires early detection & evaluation. Good luck. ...Read more

Have panic attacks but sometimes resting heart rate increases w/o feelings of anxiety--normal test results-not worried-curious abt avg. Fluctuations?

Normal heart rate: A normal heart rate is between 60 and 90 beats per minute. It can vary slightly depending upon race, gender, age, and smoking status. Degree of physical fitness is also a factor since there are plenty of people who are very physically fit with a heart rate of 50. Clinically if your resting heart pulse is over 120 or under 50 if you have any symptoms, then it would be appropriate to be seen by your doctor. ...Read more

Is cardiac MRI stress testing safer than cardiac angiogram? I'm really worried about my MRI stress test tomorrow.

Yes, since: MRI is relatively noninvasive, and angiogram requires catheterization. The tests do not provide the same information, however. MRI looks for ischemic or infarcted myocardium, which cannot be readily diagnosed on angiography. Each test has its own limitations and indications. ...Read more

Some risk: Aside from family history the biggest risk factors are male age 45 or over(female 55 or over), smoking cigarettes, hypertension and HDL less than 40. Your low HDL and elevated triglycerides suggests that you need to reduce your weight and increase exercise: this will help to raise HDL and reduce tryglycerides. Is abdominal pain a rare symptom.Of colon cancer? I've had minor short abdominal pain.Almost everyday I do have anxiety but I worry its stomach or colon cancer give me statistics please

Dealing with fear: Good medicine goes much deeper than numbers. The very fact that you have what you rightly characterize as "anxiety" (i.e., concern that is interfering with you doing the things you like to do) warrants a physician's office visit, and probably (since the focus is cancer) endoscopy from both ends to allay your concerns. The 'scope artists won't miss a cancer that's symptomatic. Good luck. ...Read more

Be reassured: Sometimes it is more important to know where the pain is not coming from. In your case, they told you it is not the heart and that should be reassuring. There are multiple reasons for chest pain and it may be difficult or impossible to find the one. Discuss it again with your pcp or cardiologist because pain is still pain but if it is not the heart, it is unlikely to be dangerous. ...Read more
