What are the terrible twos?

What are the terrible twos?

Behavior issues: Terrible twos start before two and they are related to the age group having strong impulse to touch and try everything. They listen to our "no" but do it anyway. As a parent it can be a very trying time. Be patient and persistent in your redirecting their activity. Keep their environment safe and they will need less redirection and therefore less trouble. ...Read more

When do the terrible twos start?

When do the terrible twos start?

Depends: The twos don't have to be terrible- they are a time of incredible learning and development. But they are also a time when children begin testing their limits and rules. This begins at different ages with different children. Look at this time as a way to foster growth in your child. Set rules surrounding safety, but allow them the ability for creative play and lots of free time. ...Read more

How do I make it through the terrible twos?

How do I make it through the terrible twos?

With patience: The two's are a blend of frustration and exploration for kids. They don't want you interfering but demand that you stay near to nurture & act as their servant. Lacking good communication means they use fits as a substitute for the cries that used to get them everything. When they fit, don't lock eyes & monitor from peripheral vision. Don't take it personal. Meditate. Get time away. It will pass. ...Read more

Can a child never have terrible twos till he is 10?

Can a child never have terrible twos till he is 10?

Not by definition: The "two's" is a period of confusion in a kid with a fantasy based brain who expects u to do everything s/he wants because that's the way it worked earlier (b-1y) when s/he cried. Parents begin to provide limits to this mobile & more demanding kid & the little prince/s must learn to accept limits. The >8yo acting this way is has the brain power to know your rules but refuses to accept them. ...Read more

Do kids get sick more often during the terrible twos?

Do kids get sick more often during the terrible twos?

No: Like adults, kids get sick more often, the more often they are around others who are sick. They may be in daycare with 3+ nonsibling kids, 6+ hours a day, 4+ days a week; or siblings or parents may be around more people now than when the child was younger. Just being a certain age isn't the key risk factor. ...Read more

Who can I take my 2 yr to for behavior. She is extremely mean to people more than just terrible twos?

Who can I take my 2 yr to for behavior. She is extremely mean to people more than just terrible twos?

As with medical : symptoms, it's best to look for causes of early-onset of aggression. Start by telling her pediatrician what, if anything, seems to precipitate the behaviors, exactly what behaviors she exhibits & the consequence & your response; e.g., Do you immediately "walk-don't-talk" her to time out or do you react? Fill out developmental screens & M-CHAT on firstsigns.org for her Dr. All this info helps. ...Read more

Is it normal that my daughter never experienced the “terrible twos”?

Is it normal that my daughter never experienced the “terrible twos”?

If you recognized : that learned behaviors start at 6 months, & selectively reinforced behaviors you wanted & ignored behaviors you didn't want by effective use of time-out from 18 months on, you'd have had a "Terrific Toddler", not a " Terrible Two". A typically-developing toddler tests limits, but may be temperamentally easy. At 4, she may show more desire for control of what she wears, eats & does. ...Read more

What is the benefit of the terrible twos? My son missed them by 10 years

What is the benefit of the terrible twos? My son missed them by 10 years

I agree, the job of : 2-year-olds & teens is to strive for autonomy or independence. The parents' job is to set enough limits to guarantee the child's safety, health & development of age-appropriate prosocial & coping skills yet allow enough latitude for him to explore & learn to deal with his environment appropriately. Set rules & consequences, then follow through consistently without expressing anger. It's tough! ...Read more

3 year old, cannot wind down, screams often, major tantrums, hits, bites, can't be still or stay on one task. Terrible twos or something more?

In my experience....: ...."terrible twos" last from about age one and a half to about age three and a half. It could be that you have a very active, somewhat difficult 3 year old, or there could be something more. To find out for sure, the best thing would be to bring your concerns to a pediatrician. S/he can do an evaluation and then give you appropriate advice. ...Read more

Is there any natural remedy or herb that will help calm a child down during the terrible twos?

No: The "terrible twos, " which often last from about 18mos to about 3 and a half years, are a normal, necessary, and challenging time. This might be the single time of his life when he grows, changes, and learns the most and the fastest. It can be extremely challenging, but extremely fun. I don't recommend controlling that boundless energy; instead, i recommend supervising and directing it. ...Read more

Is it true that the "terrible two's" are even more terrible if mothers smoked during pregnancy?

Is it true that the "terrible two's" are even more terrible if mothers smoked during pregnancy?

No: The "terrible twos" are not terrible; they are a wonderful time with more learning, exploring, and fun than just about any other time in kids' lives. This time can be challenging and energy draining for parents, thus the name; but how "terrible" it actually winds up being depends on the attitude with which you approach it. Try to see things through your kid's eyes, and laugh all the time. ...Read more

Period has been terrible past two times.Never have had it this bad. Cramps so bad I am crying, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, sweating, chills.Heavy flow.

Rule out pregnancy: Check a urine pregnancy test (first response brand) if you are having sex. Painful and/or heavy periods can be a sign of estrogen excess. If the pregnancy test is negative, cut the sugar, refined carbs out of your diet. Eat organically or at least avoid the dirty dozen. If you don't see an improvement in 3 months of dietary changes, see your ob/gyn. ...Read more

Terrible insomnia for two months ! sleeping pull don't work dr put me on klonapin 1mg will this work ?Help!

Insomnia: There are many possible causes for insomnia, and i don't know if you've received a comprehensive assessment of yours. Lunesta (eszopiclone) (listed on your information) is variably effective. Klonopin may sedate you, but is not specifically a sleeping pill. Your info indicates daytime sleepiness, insomnia, and COPD -- so you need eval for sleep apnea. What you actually need, may not be more medications. ...Read more

I am 16 weeks pregnant and have a terrible cold. I took two doses of sudafed without realizing the particular kind had naproxen. Is this ok?

Should be fine: While i wouldn't recommend you continue taking this name brand of pseudophed, the issue with Naproxen and nsaids is more in the third trimester. You are just barely into the second trimester, so its very unlikely the limited dose you took would cause any harm. Not impossible, just very unlikely. ...Read more

Need examination: You are describing something that could be TINNITUS as an accompanying symptom of a migraine headache of some sort....or at least some type of headache syndrome. Or there could be something like an arterial fistula (abnormal connection between 2 arteries). Does the sound change with position of the head or neck? Would you like to talk about it?
