I have an ovarian cyst tennis ball sized, filling up my right ovary. No blood flows through the cyst, but a little around it. Is it cancerous?

What is the difference between a follicle and a ovarian cyst? Can a follicle grow to a golf ball size?
Size: Follicles come and go normally in menstruating women. Cysts are just somewhat bigger follicles, around 2 cm. Follicles can sometimes develop into large cysts. A golf ball size cyst would not be uncommon. In any event these are not cancerous and usually resolve after a couple of menstrual cycles. ...Read more

Yes: I am assuming you are talking about a lipoma which is a benign fatty tumor. Regardless any mass the size of a tennis ball should be looked into. To answer your question yes it could cause pain. It can be putting pressure on a nerve or structure which could hurt. If its a lipoma then outpatient procedure. ...Read more
Ovarian cyst: It will probably go away on its own. Have another ultrasound in 3 months. Go to an emergency room if you get worsening pelvic pain as it could mean the cyst has burst or your ovary has twisted. Birth control pills help to prevent cysts but you don't have to take them if you don't want to. For sure follow up in 3 months with your physician. ...Read more

I have a ovarian cyst the size of a sliver dollar and having a lot of pain in my left side of my abdomen. What should I do?
Depends on pain: Ovarian cysts are very common. Every cycle you have a cyst produced where you ovulated from. Most of these cysts resolve without any treatment. However, if you are having a lot of pain then it may need to be treated now, by your doctor, because some of these cysts can twist on themselves. However, if the pain is getting better, you can wait and get a follow-up ultrasound in 6 weeks. ...Read more

Hi I'm curious to no if my ovarian cyst is 6.5 by 4.1 in size and I'm small framed 8 1/2 stone. Would it be best to have it surgically removed?

Are there medications other than surgery to decrease the size of large benign 13 CM simple ovarian cyst or at least prevent it from getting bigger?
No: There are many reasons a 13 cm cyst needs to be removed by surgery: unknown type, rupture, torsion, ... often the cyst can be removed without removing the ovary. It would be w-a-y outside standard of care (at least in the US) to "observe" this rather than remove. If it hasn't been removed for tissue, how do you really know it's benign? ...Read more
6 CM left ovarian cyst, extreme shooting pains on right side, gyn says referred pain and should wait another month, doubled in size in 2 months, wait?
Color flow: With extreme pain, you could have a torsed or twisted ovary. This can cut off the blood supply. They can check this with color flow doppler. Ask your doc if they did that with the ultrasound. ...Read more
Units please.: There is a big difference in management if the cyst is 7mm versus 7 cm. A 7mm cyst wouldn't require any treatment. With a 7 cm cyst, treatment options would depend partly on the description of the cyst (for example simple versus complex). But a cyst larger than about 4 cm is at risk of ovarian torsion (twisting on it's stalk) which may cause loss of the ovary and a surgical emergency. ...Read more

Yes.: Ovarian cysts do vary in size quite alot. In your age group, a small cyst is about 2-3 cm. I've seen cyst as large as 10 cm or more. Cyst less than 2.5 cm are probably functional follicle in your age group. A cyst may grow or persist over a few menstrual cycle or complete resolve. ...Read more
EXTREMELY unlikely: I would almost say 100% no. That size of a cyst is too large to resolve itself, and should be removed surgically, due to the risks of it being a tumor (need to rule out malignancy) and due to the risk of torsion (where the ovary twists around it's artery and vein, cuts off the blood supply to it and causes severe pain). Sorry, but you really need to have surgery to remove it. ...Read more
Hi. I have an ovarian cyst, it has shrunk in size but am getting pain. I was wondering if its rupturing. If so what are the signs? Thanks
Ovarian cyst: Yes it's still possible to have pain from a cyst that's shrinking and leaking fluid. The fluid from the cyst can irritate the lining tissue in the pelvis causing such pain. Using a heating pad, taking ibuprofen and resting usually helps. Pain doesn't usually last more than a few days. But be sure your not pregnant. ...Read more

I have a 3cm septated ovarian cyst. At what point/size should it be surgically removed. I have a hx of Dermoid Teratoma/partial oophrectomy.
It appears that you already follow with GYN, so they should be able to tell you when the cyst should be removed. Many times, the cyst is monitored every 6 months to a year for interval increase in size. If the size remains stable over time, there is no need for intervention. Good luck. ...Read more
