What does it mean to have a "rupture of extensor tendons" on the hand and wrist?

Can't extend fingers: These are the tendons that you use when you uncurl your fist and straighten out your fingers. They sometimes rupture because of rheumatoid or other inflammatory arthritis, especially if there has been a lot of swelling in the wrist for a long time. This problem can be surgically repaired, but it is better to prevent the problem than repair it. See your doctor. ...Read more

3 time a day at 1st: Dmso is a very safe agent that often reduces pain and inflammation when applied topically. Once absorbed it's metabolized into msm, also anti-inflammatory. Be seen again: If there is any history of trauma to the wrist and no initial xray was done that should be done now. It is possible to have a hairline fracture that does not cause any swelling or bruising at the site. Even if it would have the potential to heal on its own it is not likely that a child would be keeping it immobilized on their own. ...Read more

This: This sounds like a very serious injury. If you are unable to use your hand or move your finger that may mean that the ligaments or tendons were severely damaged, this may not heal on it's own. Please see your surgeon immediately. ...Read more

Hand pain when squeezing/closing, tendon that runs from my middle finger down to my wrist that seems to be cramp. I've been golfing a lot so maybe grip?

Tendonitis: Your pain suggests inflammation of the tendon (tendonitis) that flexes your middle finger and that also contributes to clenching your fist and flexing the wrist. It's possible that your grip is incorrect or possibly just from overuse. Anti-inflammatory medication and rest should help. If not see physician. If you have a history of stomach ulcer or take other medication consult with your Dr first. ...Read more

Do I have to be cleared by my doctor to play basketball? I had a hand laceration on the top of my hand that severed my pinke and wrist tendon and had to have them surgerically repaired. I had a check up yesterday and the doctor says they are healing fine

I have pain & swelling in tendons of my wrist and also my thumb caused by long sea kayaking trip 5 days ago. What to do to ensure it heals properly?

See below: Rest, ice (if there's swelling/pain) on & off throughout the day, elevation (for swelling), NSAID (advil/motrin/aleve/etc) for pain & inflammation (unless you're on blood thinners, have ulcers/bleeding problems). Gradually do range of motion exercises for wrist, fingers, thumb to keep them limber. If no swelling, can use moist heat instead of ice—whichever feels better & helps more. ...Read more

Went to the dr about my wrist, I have a torn tendon?

Which tendon?: It sounds like you need a minimum of a splint, but possiblly a cast or surgery (if conservative treatment fails or major structure is damaged). Ot or pt also may be necessary. I would recommend you consult an orthopedic hand surgeon. In the meanwhile, rest, ice, compression, and elevation are key. ...Read more

Cortisone shots for wrist tendon pain, what to do?

Cortisone shots for wrist tendon pain, what to do?

Unclear on question: Do you mean the cortisone shot didn't work? Or who to go see to get the shot? This might be safest done under ultrasound guidance since cortisone shots around a tendon have rare risk of rupturing the tendon. That being said, Ortho Hand doctors may be able to do this shot easily and safely. If still having pain despite the shot, would recommend seeing Ortho Hand surgeon. ...Read more
