I've been taking advicor for five years and now my doctor is switching me to zocor (simvastatin). How long does the niacin stay in your body. Flushing?
Good question: I researched your question: the half life of extended release Niacin in Advicor (lovastatin and niacin) is very variable, & depends on gender, dose, & individual characteristics. It peaks 5 hours after a single dose. Following years of treatment, it's probably safe to assume that it will take days (3-5) to wear off completely. Possibly longer depending on dose. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers

How do I know these are real medical doctors on this app? Why would they give free medical advice?
Some do help out..: Checking on someone's credential is not that hard and there are software/ways to know whether or not someone does have a medical license or not. As you probably know, pharmacists, psychologists, phlebotomists, physical therapists etc...Are also on this website. I guess it is hard to be 100% sure, thus when in doubt, check with your own doc. Many docs do want to help out---i do. Good luck to you. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

If you referred a child for phycological advice is that your medical decison not the phycologists?
Confusing question: I often send kids to see a specialist when it is evident that they need their specialty care. Whether this is a bone doctor or a psychologist, it is a decision based on my recognition from my training that that is what they need. Whether you split hairs & call this a medical decision or a psychological one is not the point. I use the training & experience I have as a physician to make that decision. ...Read more

Outside control: External locus (location) of control means that your behavior is not self-directed and motivated by people or events outside of you. A child who only does homework because of nagging, threats, punishment depends on outside force and has external locus of control? ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Hi, I recently had a medical examination following a car crash, I need some advice about innapropriate behaviour?
Depends: No medical exam should make you feel uncomfortable. Even the most intimate of examinations should be done in a highly professional and objective fashion. If you felt uncomfortable, were asked to reveal areas of your body that might not need to be, or touched in a funny way without a logical and reasonable explaination, then the doctor may have been inappropriate. Also a nurse should be in the roo. ...Read more
