Loose link: There is no strong evidence that teething causes diarrhea or fever, contrary to popular belief. Green stools in an infant can be caused by infection, diet, or malabsorption. Babies with non-bloody diarrhea without vomiting, weight loss, fever or other signs of illness can be closely monitored for a few days, but beyond this should be evaluated for an underlying condition. ...Read more

Advice for a cranky baby that's teething? He has never been cranky. No fever. He is 6 months old and drools to the point where a bit of mouth rash
Teething.: Teething pain can make babies cranky, but it shouldn't be as bad as it sounds. 6 months usually means first teeth; I'm guessing. Drooling can also be a sign of sore throat, even without fever. If pain medicine isn't working; see your doctor. If the rash is on the skin around the mouth; try some ointment, to try to keep it waterproofed. If is on the lips or inside the mouth; it's not from teething. ...Read more

Teething fever?: I don't think anyone can answer that question for sure. There seems to be a disagreement in the dental and medical community on that issue. It's possible. Having said that, if your child has a low grade fever, I would check with your own pediatrician as to what he\she believes and whether it would be a good idea to have your child in for an evaluation. ...Read more
Maybe, maybe not: I'm not convinced that teething itself causes fever although the kids can get worked up during the process. Teething occurs during the period when babies get 5-7 respiratory & 2-3 diarrhea viruses/yr & I'm not sure when one stops & another starts up, many are mild & teething gets blamed for the fever due to lack of obvious symptoms. ...Read more

Cold teething rings: There are a collection of teething remedies available otc but I have never seen consistent benefit from any of them. ? Teething Fever?: I'm not convinced kids have teething fever & if they do it would be low grade at most. Since teething can encompass the first 3 yrs & the are due for 5-7 respiratory & 3 diarrheal illness/yr at the same time there is bound to be some overlap. I would be concerned with persistent fever in a kid whose feeding & activity decline & want that kid seen. If playful & happy during the process, just monitor. ...Read more
Maybe: The average 10mo is both acquiring teeth & sticking his/her hands in their mouth covered with new germs from their surroundings. Whether this is teeth or low grade viral illness is hard to say. I expect about 3 diarrheal illnesses & 5-7 respiratory viruses/yr at this stage. Since we can't fix either I think we blame teeth a bit more than they really deserve. ...Read more
