That's why good daily oral hygiene is very important while a patient is in braces. Who wants straight teeth that are now discolored and/or has lots of cavities? The 3rd molars are rarely involved with orthodontic appliances, and any discomfort from the eruption of them into the oral cavity is a separate issue from orthodontia.
