When your due date arrives, you will be more than ready to have your baby! Most women deliver the baby somewhere between 37 and 42 weeks. Approximately 7% of babies are not delivered by 42 weeks, and when that happens, it is referred to ...Read more

Depending on the severity of growth restriction (called SGA-small for gestational age), they may have no, small, or moderate learning disabilities. Depending on the severity of premature complications-they may have psychomotor, cognitive, or learning disabilities. ...Read more

Not always: The decision to do an amniocentesis in order to do karyotyping is a personal decision and carries up to a 1 in 200 miscarriage rate. The information obtained would classically be used to decide upon termination or not as there is no treatable or correctable chromosome abnormality. At 35 years old and above, the risk of a chromosome defect is 1 in 200 or greater. ...Read more

I read in japan pregnant women continue to eat sushi and raw fish when pregant. I read that there are no conclusive studies regarding the ban, true?
The FDA disapproves!: Sushi should be avoided during pregnancy for two reasons. (1) risk of bacterial infection complicating the pregnancy. (2) risk of exposure to mercury complicating the pregnancy. Certainly not worth the risk during pregnancy. Cooked sushi or vegetable-only sushi should be fine, but then we'd worry about the person making the sushi having washed his hands after handling raw fish. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

No stats yet, but: Many articles are pointing the finger at the advertizing industry. Smoking vs pregnancy: Pregnancy is simply not the time to smoke wherupon nicotine byproducts are absorbed by the fetus as well as carbon monoxide.( yes, the stuff from car exhausts!). Addictions such as smoking can be environmentally transmitted to infants and children by parents, but I do not know of any double blind study implicating a predisposition intra-natally due to high risk to the fetuses as research subjects. ...Read more

Some latest research info I came across says that full-fat, & not low-fat dairy, is best. Can we take this as conclusive proof? TQ
Not conclusive proof: Current thinking is: the sugar and simple carbohydrates are the enemy, not the fat. It is not conclusive proof (conclusive proof is very, very hard to come by). It will take many more years to see what happens after our population gets off sugar and simple carbs, and eats a variety of fats... and then researchers will try to figure out the new results. Meanwhile, eat very little sugar. ...Read more
Is it true or a myth that expired tetracyclines are toxic? Are there some studies or just one paper from 50 years ago? Any good, modern data about it?
I have not heard thi: Many meds have expiration dates that are purely a marketing tool to get the patient to throw away the meds and but more. . Otherwise the manufacturers would not have to make so many to fill the need of filling garbage cans with "dated " pills. Really old pills are probably not a good idea and especially if they have not been stored properly. ...Read more
