28 yr f. 8 + pregnant test. Period 1.5 weeks late. Ov cancer causes false positives? Worried.Do women still get their monthly periods with ovarian cancer?

Not ovarian cancer: Only in very rare cases does ovarian cancer cause a positive pregnancy test. Embryonal cell carcinomas, ovarian choriocarcinomas, mixed germ cell tumors, and some dysgerminomas are the only ovarian cancers that produce HCG (positive pregnancy test). All of these types of tumors comprise less than 5% of all ovarian cancers. Have your local ob/gyn get an ultrasound of your pelvis. ...Read more

Karyotyping - is it done to check all pregnant women over age 35years?

Karyotyping - is it done to check all pregnant women over age 35years?

Not always: The decision to do an amniocentesis in order to do karyotyping is a personal decision and carries up to a 1 in 200 miscarriage rate. The information obtained would classically be used to decide upon termination or not as there is no treatable or correctable chromosome abnormality. At 35 years old and above, the risk of a chromosome defect is 1 in 200 or greater. ...Read more

How accuate a normal ultrasound in predicting baby gender 12.5 weeks aftet pregnancy. Gyn. Said he believes baby boy. How accurate in percentage plz?

Maybe, maybe not: The equipment may be formed by 12.5 wks but most will not stake their reputation on a reading that early, confirmation around 18-20 wks would be nice. In any case, if the equipment doesn't come out to be found, it can be missed .I've had parents paint the nursery for a girl based on us & get a surprise at delivery. ...Read more

Ultrasound report said 6 weeks, 122 BPM but abnormal embryo. I conceived naturally why would the report say abnormal embryo and is this accurate?

Abnormal US: At six weeks, it is very difficult to see much to determine if the embryo is normal or not. While they reported a good heart beat, there is not much more that you would see. I wonder if they are referring to bleeding around the placenta. I hope they scheduled a repeat ultrasound in 7-10 days to offer you more information. ...Read more

Would early ovulation causing early conception show in the gestational age since not all woman ovulate 14 days after lmp?

Yes, no, and maybe: Yes, if she knows how to adjust her counting based on the length of her cycles or on which day she usually ovulates. Yes, if using an ultrasound to do the dating, such as an 8-11 week ultrasound scan.
