Tc Hdl Ratio
HDL, or high density lipoprotein, is a molecule in the body that is responsible for the transport of lipids (fats) from various organs including blood vessels back to the liver for processing and possible elimination. Because it helps prevent accumulation of lipids in blood vessels, HDL cholesterol is ...Read more

Yes, meds+lifestyle: What is your BMI? Have you gained weight? This may affect your numbers and suggests a remedy as well. In addition to lipid medications, you need to be screened for type 2 diabetes and fatty liver. Beginning a proper diet and exercise program and losing weight weight will help as well. If you smoke, get help to quit. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers
Total cholesterol is 232..Ldl direct is 150..Tc/hdl cholesterol ratio is 5.4...Do i need medication or is it normal?
Depends on Particles: More than cholesterol, cardiovascular disease (CVD) is related to the number of LDL (LDL-P) and HDL particles (HDL-P). Because cholesterol in LDL and HDL particles is highly variable cholesterol levels often disagree with particle number. When cholesterol and particle number disagree CVD risk tracks with high LDL-P and/or low HDL-P, not LDL-C or HDL-C. Talk to your doctor about next steps. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers
Tc: 211 (>200) but hdl: 34(<40) only. Please suggest diet to increase HDL but lower total cholesterol for the ratio to be lower than 4. Thnx?
Ways to raise HDL: I don't think a cholesterol of 211 is dangerous unless your LDL particles are small & dense (which requires further testing to determine) but it is wise to raise your hdl. Xanthomas on eye lids.TC 252, TG 92, HDL 70, LDL 164, CHOL/HDL RATIO 3.6. Good diet & Ex. Can mild elevation cause deposits or inflammation in body?
Xanthomas from lipid: A Xanthoma looks like a yellow bump with well-defined borders that can appear anywhere on the body, and is associated with elevated blood lipids from a variety of causes, including hyperlipidemia, diabetes, pancreatitis, liver problems, certain cancers. Xanthelasma are flat yellow irregular growths on the eyelids which are not necessarily from increased lipids. The growths themselves are harmless. ...Read more
Trig 225, choles total 220, hdl 28, LDL134..choles-total/ choles hdl ratio 7.9:1 very bad? what needs to be done to improve. 50 yrs of age. Thanks!
Not very good: Your numbers are not very good and put you at increased risk for coronary artery disease. It is unlikely that you will get much improvement from diet alone unless you are highly motivated. You could try the Esselstyn diet. You should definitely establish with a health care professional and initiate drug therapy if diet is not effective in three months. ...Read more
If my total cholest is 284 with HDL 100.9 and LDL 177 , trig 79, ratio 2.81. What is more important the levels or the ratio? What the ratio means?
Individual Values: Cardiovascular (cvd) risk is related to the number of LDL particles (ldl-p) and the number of HDL particles (hdl-p). When ldl-p is high or hdl-p is low cvd risk is elevated. Ratios report an LDL number divided by hdl. However, cvd risk can vary by 40% a the same ratio value. This is because you can get the same ratio with different LDL or HDL values (e.g., 2000/50 or 1000/25 give the same ratio). ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
LDL Particle Problem: Ldl is a lipoprotein that can be measured by cholesterol (ldl-c) or particle number (ldl-p). Because cholesterol in LDL is highly variable, ldl-c often disagrees with ldl-p. When cholesterol and particle number disagree cvd risk tracks with ldl-p, not ldl-c. When tg is elevated, ldl-p is usually much higher than ldl-c. Ldl goals vary based on level of risk (high risk goal. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
