Tuberculosis: Pulmonary scarring from tuberculosis may not produce significant problems, but this depends upon how extensive and where the scars were located. In any event this should not influence whether you date or get married. If he loves you, none of this will matter, and the overwhelming probability is that you will be just fine. Tb scar on lungs was treated frm TB last year. Is is possible to get lung cancer or any other disease bcz of d TB scars? Wat r d health risks?
Tuberculosis: This obviously depends upon the extent of the scarring. If it is severe enough to cause shortness of breath with exertion this would not be confined to sexual activity, but to any form of extreme exercise. It would be unusual in the USA to see pulmonary scarring of that extent, assuming the TB had been recognized and treated appropriately. ...Read more
From my CT scan, what is nodular parenchymal opacity (1.5 mm)? Does it indicate an old TB scar? X ray looks fine
Check it out: Xrays look at differences in density. Chest xrays take 2 views while a ct takes a 360 degree view and is more sensitive. You have a small nodular (round) opacity (denser than the surrounding lung) that only is visible on ct. Xrays take pictures and may not not provide a specific diagnosis. The nodule may represent old TB but you need a doctor and possibly other tests to decide this. ...Read more

Hi doctor, m cured frm TB bt TB left scars. Can I get lung cancer/any other disease bcz of TB scars? 22 year old female. I don't smoke. Plz reply me.
Don't worry: We've both been cured of TB and that's a good thing. The tiny statistical cancer risk that these old scars pose (and not everybody believe they even do) isn't something we can do anything about. You can't remove the scar, and nowadays it's not considered even worth getting radiation to look for it. Just be grateful that TB is now manageable. Best wishes. ...Read more

My chest xray showed--right upper midzonal consolidation is seen with a fibrotic element. Is it TB scar? Could it cause lung cancer. Doctor please answer.
Abnormal Xray: I cannot say without seeing the xray. However, "fibrotic" implies scarring. If you have history of tb, it can be from that, or any prior infection. Would not hurt to keep an eye on it, as TB can recur. Tb does not cause lung cancer, nor does scarring. If the scarring is from smoking however, that does cause cancer without doubt! If you do smoke, at your age you have time to heal if you quit. ...Read more
TB vs scar: Nodular densities in the lung are often seen as a result of scarring. If you are concerned about TB then getting a TB skin test would be the first step. If it is negative then the nodule in the lung is not TB. If it is positive and you are not coughing then it means you have been exposed to TB but do not have active TB. If it is positive and you are coughing then you need sputum culture done. ...Read more

Chest x-ray showed fibronodular opacities in right upper & left mid zone. Had TB 4 yrs back, are these scars from earlier tb? Can this be removed?
This is a Complex Qu: This is a complex issue. Yes, TB can and often does cause fibrosis/nodular changes which typically regress partially or complete once a full course of treatment has been taken. There is of course risk of recurrence of TB. So we have to find out if your lung changes are left over of the older TB or are these new changes (progression). For this you need to go back to the doctor who treated your TB. ...Read more

Can lymp nodes and enlarged glands shrink after treatment for TB lympadentitis. Can extrapulmonary TB cause lung scarring because of enlarged glands?
Can TB lympadentitis cause lung scarring without having pulmonary tb? Chest xray show only enlarged gland.
Highly unlikely: TB lymphadenopathy is initiated when macrophages carry the bacillus from a pulmonary alveolar focus to the lymph node which then enlarges, suppurates and ruptures into an adjacent blood vessel. So it is virtually impossible to have pulmonary nodes involved without having pulmonary infection first. ...Read more
