5 month Baby boy has fortnight back viral cough and cold. He was given taxim o and timnic. He is now recovering. Mother has got cough. Please advisei?
Improving...: Although you stated that the cough was viral, it seems the baby was treated with antibiotics? Either way, you mention that the baby is recovering --- so I gather that means improving. Cough can linger for a few weeks - con't with supportive care - saline drops, humidifier. It isn't surprising if mom caught the cold - symptomatic care for her and seek medical care if either mom/baby worsen. ...Read more
10month baby had rash itching doctor gave taxim o drops. Why a/b for allergy. How can I tc of baby with rash.
My baby only 2month doctor recommend atarax drops & taxim -o for his cold & cough problm. Is it safe for my baby?
I would never/ever: The main reason for congestion in young infants is their small nasal passages & the irritants they breathe in that cause drainage. These drops can thicken the drainage & make it worse. It amounts to giving you something to do to get you out of the office "happy".Review everything in babies life & exclude things that cause fragrances/ dust/odor. Wash out the nose with saline as needed. ...Read more

Probably not: The presence of reducing substances and pus cells in small concentrations doesn't necessarily indicate infection, but it seems your doctor prescribed Taxin O just in case. EBF babies typically have soft stools that may also appear "seedy" & range from yellow to green in color. Iron supplements can make the stool darker. Since your baby is active & growing, most like s'he is fine. ...Read more

My 10month baby has severe cough. Doctor gave him cefixime+ofloxacin, salbutamol+theophyllin, paraceta, zinc syrup. Last nite he cry whole nite. Help pls.?
Probably medication: Salbutamol and theophylline are both asthma medications, and often help with cough, but irritability is a common side effect. It could mean that the child is getting too much for his weight. A nebulizer might be better. Don't give any more medicine untgil you discuss it with your doctor. ...Read more
No: Colds are caused by viruses. Colds have no cure and are self limiting. Aim is to make the infant / child comfortable. Febrex plus syrup has paracetamol (safe) an antihistamine called chlorpheniramine (not safe) and an oral nasal decongestant phenylephrine (not safe). This combination shd be avoided in infants and children. Can cause dryness, sedation, irritability at times and high BP. ...Read more

Cough syrup, Nosal drop and steam are not affecting much for my 1 month infant, can I give him nebulizer with saline water.
? irritants?: The first months are troubled by narrow nasal passages exposure to dust, fragrances, smoke & other irritants. This often ends as congestion & produces rattling with breathing. The best rx is washing out the nose with saline & SUCTIONING the remainder. Eliminate irritants from babies environment & this will happen less. Cough syrups make them worse. Nasal drops without suction are a waste of time. ...Read more
Is it alright to give an 8mo infant tylenol (acetaminophen) syrup just once a day at nighttime for teething pain and crankiness? For how many days can it be given?
Probably not: This disease is because of a defect in metabolism of leucine, isoleucine and valine, all present in protein. I believe that mead johnosn may be making a diet for this disease but it is a long time since I had the care of a msud patient----- a very difficult disease to treat and only diet can prevent the mental retardation that is otherwise inevitable. ...Read more

Dr. Can check throat: New throat pain can be from a strep throat infection (antibiotics are needed), a cold or influenza (antibiotics usually not used), or from some other cause such as allergies or irritants.
