Taxim O Antibiotic Used For Typhoid
Salmonella SOL: Yes: first make sure it's the correct diagnosis using a stool culture on special culture media. Second, see what the antibiotic sensitivities are via that same culture and use one it is sensitive. If it is resistant to all those antibiotics and a special test of newer antibiotics fails then you are, as they say, S.O.L. and will need to be followed closely by an infectious disease specialist. ...Read more
4yo female uti- prescription suprax (cefixime) for 10d, 2 days after finishing UTI came back, augmentinx3d didn't tolerate, switched to bactrimx10d.Day 8-fever no other sxs?
1.5 yr old has chronic bacterial bronch. Cultures nontypeable h-flu resistant to penicillin. Allergic to sulpha. Omnicef (cefdinir) isn't working. Other options?
A little time: Atbcs take a few days to provide noticeable clearing of symptoms. When the lab tests the mucus, the labs tests what atbc the bacteria is susceptible to. Likely your physician saw the susceptibility report and rx Omnicef (cefdinir) based on that report. Perhaps give the treatment a few more days. ...Read more
Uti uncomplicated klebsiella o. 1 day of cipro (ciprofloxacin) = hives and diarrhea. Doctor switched me to suprax since culture showed it effective. Is suprax 'safe'?
Safety of suprax (cefixime): Yes, suprax (cefixime) is safe. It is a cephalosporin antibiotic. Interestingly, it was not used for many years because of antibiotic resistance. Recently it has proven itself and for your situation it sounds like a reasonable choice. ...Read moreSee 6 more doctor answers
Which antibiotics r best to kill salmonella typhi...Had levofloxacin..Ciprofloxacin...Rocephanin IV but no improvement..Need help?
After 5 da. Bactrim for actinobacter-er for chest-neg. Er md refused bactrim-off 2 da. Given cipro (ciprofloxacin) after bad rxn to doubled bactrim. Now not improving-did bug become resistant? New culture nec.?
Resistance possible: Acinetibacter resistance could be occur when taking an antibiotic and not reaching therapeutic dose or discontinuing a medication before completing it. Some bacteria require double coverage or intravenous if not improving. See your primary doctor as he/she will follow your cultures or recommend the next part of your care. Be well and tell your pharmacist about reaction to bactrim (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim). ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Does bactrim (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim) forte for 10 days 2 pills per day can eradicate streptococcus agalactae type b found in sperm culture?I also gave bactrim (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim) for my wife too
Need more info: Group b streptococci are common vaginally as colonizers, and the only issues that arise are if your wife is pregnant. It then creates a risk for the baby. If you are not symptomatic your penis was probably colonized by the organism in your wife's vagina. It is possible, but not absolute, that the antibiotics you are taking will eliminate this, but unless you are ill there is no reason to treat. ...Read more
I'm taking triple prevpack antibiotic for h pylori for
. Since this antibiotic is strong, could it kill all the bacteria in one single treatment?
H. Pylori: Prevpac (lansoprazole amoxicillin and clarithromycin) is a good agent to treat h. Pylori, but it will not be effective to only take one time dose. You need to follow your doctor's prescription, which is one dose bid for 14 days. Do not take one dose then stop since this will cause antibiotic resistance in the future and make the bacteria more difficult to be treated. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

For strep throat, 5-days zithromax is easy to use. Are doctors seeing some antibiotic resistance? What's being used other than zithro, amoxil, (amoxicillin) or pcn?
Rare: There has been rare reported resistance to zithromycin (zithromax). Resistant strains were found back in 2002 in pittsburgh when 46 cases were demonstrated in a group of schoolchildren and scattered cases have been seen in multiple locales since then. Cephalosporins are useful and also used in strep carrier states too. ...Read moreSee 6 more doctor answers
How appropriate is a regimen of augmentin (amoxicillin and clavulanate) and azithro for rx of nosocomial pneumonia in elderly male not responding to moxifloxacin?
Not- if right dx: I would first step back and ask how the diagnosis of nosocomial pneumoina was made? There is specific criteria for the diagnosis since it implies the presence of multidrug-resisistant bacteria, for which amoxicillin-clavulanate and azithro is less effective. The combination stated seems more appropriate for coverage of community acquired/aspiration/atypical pneumonia ...Read more
Allergic to many broad spectrum antibiotics, including penicillin, cephalosporins. Clindamycin, Bactrim, Cipro (ciprofloxacin) gave C Diff. What would work for Sinus?
2 year old vacationing in Europe, is prescribed Cefixime antibiotic to clear tonsillitis. Is this drug effective?
With Cefzil & rocephin (ceftriaxone) I get hives.Should I take penicillin shot for syphilis treatment. This is a 3rd infection. Used doxycycline for first 2.
Condoned: Penicillin is still the first line treatment for syphilis. The most effective treatment for syphilis is not to get it, use a condom. The more often you get it, the greater your risk for antibiotic resistance. Also, with this being your third episode, you are now at high risk of contracting chlamydia and HIV. You need to get tested for those too. Stop playing Russian roulette with your life. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers

Heard that vancomycin doesn't absorb well, so is IV vancomycin appropriate for a streptococcus pneumoniae infection? Took vanco and levaquin (levofloxacin) for it
Yes Vancomycin: absorbs just fine if you give it IV. For Strep pneumo infection depending on the site, Vancomycin and Levaquin (levofloxacin) would be more than enough. Though Strep pneumo is encapsulated organism and therefore can be resistant to many antibiotics, this combination should reduce that chance to very small.
