Taurine In Energy Drinks
Because expected?: Virtually all "energy drinks" have taurine but i know of no good evidence that taurine increases energy.Taurine is an Amino Acid that is important for heart health & muscles & acts as a inhibitory neurotransmitter, meaning it actually has a calming effect on the nervous system, the opposite of what you might want in an energy drink. But because it is widely used in these drinks people now expect it! ...Read more
No: While it is true that taurine is an important building block for protein and is necessary for good brain, heart and blood vessel function, there is no evidence that supplementing with taurine can prevent or reverse heart disease. Correspondingly, the amount that might be needed is completely unknown and, if found to be beneficial, likely to be much more than what is contained in Monster drinks. ...Read more
Drinking an energy shot, it contains high concentrations of caffeine, taurine, magnesium and L-Arginine, also i'm on antidepressants, is it safe?
Probably: Assuming the product is not contaminated and contains what it says, the tauriine, magnesium and L-arginine do not constitute a risk. A typical cup of coffee is 100-200 mg of caffeine; at some establishments it can go to 400 mg. That is your guide. But the concern is less the interaction with antidepressants, more is it ok for you and any medical condition you might have. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers
Talk to a trainer: or a sports medicine physician, and neither of them would recommend it. Energy drinks are not all the same - some of them are just caffeine, others have large amounts of sugar, and some have caffeine plus a lot of other stuff of unknown usefulness - like vitamins and taurine. In some cases, they are no different than a good strong cup of coffee, and others are caffeine OD's waiting to happen. ...Read more

Caffeine: Calling caffeine, taurine, and sugar 'energy' is one of the modern day's snake oil gimmicks. Caffeine ; calming: Guarana is a main source of caffeine in energy drinks, which is a natural stimulant. I am really not sure why energy drinks have taurine, which is an Amino Acid that has a calming effect on the nervous system ; does not make people feel energetic. My best guess is that because the first energy drinks had taurine all the others have it because people now expect energy drinks to have it!see comment:. ...Read more
