I occasionally have tan - colored stool that is flat in shape and smells of rotten eggs. In addition to this, it occasionally burns after I go to the?

Seems to be normal.: The color of stool varies frequently and depends on the food eaten. The smell also varies on type of food eaten and the duration of digestion. Burning after bowel movements is a sign of soreness in the anal area usually from hard stools. If the symptoms are constant or associated with abdominal pain, diarrhea, vomiting, fever, or blood in stools, then don't worry about them. ...Read more

Light tan colored stool for a week now. With some constipation. I do not have my gall bladder?

Light tan colored stool for a week now. With some constipation. I do not have my gall bladder?

Liver problem?: Typically a light or tan colored stool suggests a lack of bile. This often results after gall bladder removal, but not sure why you would have just noticed for the last week. Did you use any anti-diarrhea medicines (Pepto-Bismal)? Bile is produced in the liver, so if the change persists and light colored stool continues, see your doctor for evaluation/liver check. Best wishes:) ...Read more

Depends: Colored alcohols do taint the color of stool the next day, esp if they are consumed in quantity. Wine is an example. Also, they do not always turn the stool the color of the drink, you kind have to think about the color wheel in art class, what colors when mixed together create another color. If you have other symptoms, then forget the above and go see your pcp. Red stools are trump, see pcp. ...Read more

I've been drinking about a gallon of milk every day, and lots of white yogurt. Would this cause light colored stool?

Possibly. Watch out!: Milk-alkali syndrome is caused by the ingestion of large amounts of calcium & absorbable alkali resulting in hypercalcemia that can lead to metastatic calcification & renal failure. This syndrome dates to the 1920s during administration of the Sippy regimen (milk & bicarbonate) to treat peptic ulcers. Also, your fat intake is likely enormous. Would recommend at this point reevaluating your diet! ...Read more

12-year-old son has very light-colored stool periodically. Lasts for a day or two, then returns to normal. Any reason for concern?

Doctor can examine: A primary care doctor can check to see why some stools are very light colored. He'll want to know the circumstances around the light colored stools, such as whether or not it is related to rapid transit of poop through the bowels, or related to certain foods. Keeping a diary of symptoms will help. If worried about the gall bladder, the doctor may order an ultrasound scan. ...Read more

What does it mean to have light colored stool? What color do they actually mean? Is it gray or white, or is light gold also a concern?

Bile absorption: The color of your stool is dependent on how quickly things move through your intestines and how much bile is excreted. It can also be changed by what foods you are eating or if you have a gastrointestinal infection. Pure white or very light stools can be a sign of a blockage in your bile duct or from some medications. You should contact your doctor to discuss this. ...Read more

I have light colored stool everyday. Pancreas. Liver. GB.ruled out What else could it be? Thanks for your time, wisdom and care

Probably not liver: I am sure your doctor has tested your liver functions and as long as you are not jaundiced (yellow) and your liver tests are normal, then the light colored stool is not liver related. More than likely, this is due to dietary changes, and/or changes in stool bacterial content. If, though, you do have elevated bilirubin levels, see a gastroenterologist for further assessment ...Read more

Cannot diagnose: This cannot be diagnosed without the ability to examine both you and the stool specimens and do appropriate testing. See an infectious diseases expert. Often the solution to Cl. Difficile colitis that has been difficult to manage is to replace the normal colonic flora. The first attempt might be with yogurt, and then with fecal flora from a normal donor.
