Why would a woman be prescribed flomax (tamsulosin) after having kidney stones?

Why would a woman be prescribed flomax (tamsulosin) after having kidney stones?

Sm. Muscle relaxer: 'flomax' (tamsulosin) is an Alpha 1a blocker that relaxes smooth muscle around the prostate to aid in urination in men with 'enlarged prostate' (bph). It is also used to 'relax the ureter' in aiding the passage of a small (<5mm) kidney stone. Kidney stones may occur in women, too, so it not unheard of to put a woman on tamsulosin. ...Read more

I am a female and taking flomax (tamsulosin) for 7 days for kidney stones. None have passed yet? Is the medication not working for me?

Here are some. ..: Flomax (tamsulosin) is used to relax smooth muscle of lower part of ureter and bladder neck so to ease the passage of distal ureteral stone; this effect and benefit have been clinically studied, but of course, would never be 100%. Generally speaking, the odd to spontaneously pass a stone of 4-6 mm may still pass and few stone ...Read more

How long should it take to pass a 6mm kidney stone once it feels like it's near my clitorous and tearing me? Is flomax (tamsulosin) okay for females?

How long should it take to pass a 6mm kidney stone once it feels like it's near my clitorous and tearing me? Is flomax (tamsulosin) okay for females?

Varies: How long it takes to pass will vary. Most stones that are 6mm will eventually pass. If the pain is not well managed it can be removed endosopically (by working through a cystoscope). It is fine for a female to take flomax (tamsulosin) to help relax the ureter for the stone to pass. Best wishes. ...Read more

I was in so much pain from a kidney stone now the pain is gone but I didn't see a stone pass is the stone gone should I stop taking flomax (tamsulosin)?

I was in so much pain from a kidney stone now the pain is gone but I didn't see a stone pass is the stone gone should I stop taking flomax (tamsulosin)?

Pain gone: The stone is likely passed if your pain is gone, you have likely passed the kidney stone. I would not stop a medication that has been given to you by your primary or urologist until you have discussed it with them unless you are having bad side effects to the medications. There is no significant harm in taking it for an additional night and discussing it with your doctor in the AM. Be well. ...Read more

28yr old husband was on flomax (tamsulosin) for a kidney stone 3 weeks ago. Now he can't last very long in the bedroom. Normal side effect and will it go away soon?

28yr old husband was on flomax (tamsulosin) for a kidney stone 3 weeks ago. Now he can't last very long in the bedroom. Normal side effect and will it go away soon?

Drug effect unlikely: Use of Flomax (tamsulosin) may enhance kidney stone passage. Flomax (tamsulosin) should not be affecting ejaculation after 48 hours from the last dose. Flomax (tamsulosin) has the potential side effect of delaying ejaculation. If your husband had that experience and was unaware of the side effect, it may have created anxiety which can be affect ejaculation, particularly premature ejaculation. Communication and education may help. ...Read more

Kidney stone in ureter at bladder opening. 4x10mm long. What should I do too pass it? Taking flomax (tamsulosin). Have pain in urethra. No side pain

Here are some. ..: Have you passed urinary stone before? If so, what was the size of stone, and how soon? A 4x10mm stone is bigger than the size for spontaneous passage. If still there after 2-3 weeks of waiting, the odd to pass becomes less and remote. For long-term care, the best care for such stone is to use holmium laser to zap it with or without stent. More detail? Ask the attending urologist timely. ...Read more

My kidney stone is 4mm x 1cm long. Had it CT scanned & it has an inch of ureter to still pass thru. Is it going to pass to my bladder? Taking flomax (tamsulosin)

Here are some...: If the degree of hydronephrosis - kidney dilation - is acceptable, you may wait and see with Flomax (tamsulosin) since this stone has already worked its way down thus far although the very end of ureter is the most difficult point to pass through. However, generally speaking, a stone suck a the same spot for more than 2-3 weeks will become less likely to pass; then intervention to remove it is reasonable. ...Read more

44mm kidney stone in bladder severe pain in penis feel like something crawling in my penis. No more flomax (tamsulosin) to help any suggestions? Urine flow is good

Adequate hydration: In addition to the pain medication, you need to drink at least 8cups of water a day and keep yourself adequately hydrated. I am guessing the urine was tested during your prior evaluation to make sure there is no accompanying infection. You should be able to pass this and make sure you keep the referral or follow up appointment recommended. ...Read more

What can cause acute inner elbow lymph node swelling golf ball size bilateral. Passed kidney stone 2 days prior. See dr 2morrow. Took flomax (tamsulosin) for stone

Lymph node swelling: This location of lymph node swelling typically associates with an inflammatory reaction at the elbow or below, in your forearm or hand. Did you have an IV in your arm or hand? Flomax (tamsulosin) could lead to an allergic reaction but I think you would see other evidences. Are nails and fingers irritated? Do you have a rash elsewhere? ...Read more

Taking ketorolac, oxy/acetaminophen, flomax, (tamsulosin) zofran to manage kidney stone. No bm for 48 hours. Is this too long? What can I do to have a bm?

Suppositories: YOu can get some glycerin suppositories to help bm. The constipation is from the oxycodone. If you will need it longer start on some bisacodyl and take as instructed on bottle. I would not worry for not having a BM is 48 hours. This is not unusual in the case of narcotics.

I was prescribed flomax (tamsulosin) for a' 4 mm kidney stone. By day two I developed nasal congestion and tooth sensitivity and jaw pain. Was that from flomax (tamsulosin)?

Side effect profile: After reviewing side effect profile of Flomax (tamsulosin), (tamsulosin) Rhinitis (irritation and inflammation of the mucous membrane inside the nose) is a possible side effect however this is a non-specific symptom and could be related to other infectious process such as upper respiratory infection. Tooth and jaw pain likely related but not as a side effect to Flomax (tamsulosin). You may want to see dentist if toothache persists. ...Read more

91 year old male with pain on left side about hip level but towards the back. No blood in urine. Could this be a kidney stone on Coumadin and flomax (tamsulosin). He has a huge protate and does not hydrate enough.

Here are some. ..: Clinically, I agree with my colleague stating musculoskeletal origin as a culprit for pain as described. For a 91-year-old man, bring the detailed info on his voiding history and pain near left hip & lower back stressing their quality, quantity, and sequence of events over time to Doc for analysis, physical exam, & tests such as residual urine, urinalysis, renal function, etc. So to define cause ...Read more
