He or she will palpate to see if there is tenderness or to determine if things feel correct. The doctor will check your passive (doctor moves it) and active (you move it) range of motion. It is also likely that the doctor will do some brief assessment to ensure that the nerves and blood vessels are working correctly. The doctor may obtain xrays if not already done. In some cases the doctor wil order a special study like a mri. The doctor will discuss his or her findings with you and advise of possible treatment options.
