Talcum unlikely prob: Studies show that talcum powder, which is a silicate like asbestos, is not likely to cause ovarian cancer. Studies investigated the introduction of talc on talc dusted diaphragms and condoms and concluded that it was not likely the cause. Correlation, not causation. There is also data that getting a tubal ligation, which can prevent talc crystals from getting to ovary, can decrease the risk of ovarian cancer. However, the exact answer is not known. My palms are itching and there is redness with slight swelling . The itchiness seems to stop after applying talcum powder but returns after sometime.

What can be done about itching in skin folds? The itching is more intense when bathing in warm water. Medicated talcum powder gives only temporary relief. Antibiotic ointments only seem to make it worse. Cortisone cream has no effect one way or the other.

Possibly capsaicin: The curcumin ; resveratrol are anti-inflammatory ; anti-oxidant with neuroprotective effects. There is a study suggesting capsaicin may damage neurons in 10 day old rats. Yes: Baby powder is a simple & effective product. I prefer the non-starch materials. Placing starch on the moist skin of a baby is like setting out food for germs. Beware that babies have developed pneumonia when they inhaled quantities of talcum powder in a changing table accident.
