I have been taking Vicodin for about 2 months and I'm pregnant will this affect my baby when it's time to deliver which is a couple weeks?

Yes: and its CRITICAL that your OB provider know this in advance. Depending on how much Vicodin you are taking, there is a chance that your baby will develop what is called neonatal abstinence syndrome (NAS). This doesn't happen in all babies, but babies where mothers are using opiates should be observed for at least 3 days to determine if NAS is present. It can be treated, but may take weeks. ...Read more

Pregnancy (Definition)

When your due date arrives, you will be more than ready to have your baby! Most women deliver the baby somewhere between 37 and 42 weeks. According to the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, only 5% of babies arrive on the exact due date. Approximately 7% of babies are not delivered by 42 weeks, and when that happens, it is referred to ...Read more

Is it safe to take vicodin while pregnant?

Is it safe to take vicodin while pregnant?

Yes, but...: We do try to avoid narcotics when we can. Vicodin has a narcotic and tylenol (acetaminophen) in it. The narcotic does get to the baby a bit. Babies born after mom has been on a narcotic every day for a while do go through a withdrawal. So we try to avoid it, especially long term. But for an acute pain, it is safe in pregnancy. ...Read more

If a man is taking vicodin Zanaflex (tizanidine) and nuerontin can it cause birth defects if my wife gets pregnant while im on this medicine ?

If a man is taking vicodin Zanaflex (tizanidine) and nuerontin can it cause birth defects if my wife gets pregnant while im on this medicine ?

No.: There little to no evidence linking paternally ingested drugs to birth defects. The paternal contribution to birth defects had to do with age (more autosomal dominant rare but severe traits can manifest after de novo mutations in the spermatozoa) and family history and not generally with drug exposure. ...Read more

4 weeks pregnant, severe back pain. Waiting for doc to call back. Will taking 2.5mg Vicodin affect baby or cause birth defect?

Vicodin caution: vicodin contains hydrocodone, which is opioid, like morpheine, oxycodone, dilaudid, hydro morpheine, codeine, etc. They can cross the placenta and change the baby's chemistry. Taken chronically, they can cause opioid dependence in baby. Back pain in preg is usually mechanical. Ligaments and muscles are pushed around. A good osteopath or manually-trained physical therapist can often help. ...Read more

Migraine pain, need medicine. Tried to concieve thur, sat and sun today is tuesday. Is it safe to take imitrix or vicodin or could I b pregnant ?

This is critical: If you become pregnant, and then take Imitrex for your headaches, you have high risk of miscarriage. So, triptans are totally verboten (forbidden) during pregnancy. However, tylenol (acetaminophen) is ok, and my ob-gyn colleagues seem to be all right with vicodin. Many migraine meds are too dangerous to the fetus to risk, so my advice is to discuss fully with you obstetrician. A neurologist may also help. ...Read more
