Taking Two Zyrtec
11 month old - cough at night and chest congestion since 2 wks. Taking zyrtec n terbutaline sulphate orally. Is Nebulisation needed?
Would make an appoin: Virus are very common this time a year. Prolonged viruses or colds sometimes can turn into something more serious. With symptoms for two weeks, I would recommend that your child be seen in the office. Nighttime coughing could be due to post nasal drip or sinusitis (esp if there is fever). Nebulized treatments and/ or antibiotics may be needed esp if there is a history of reactive airway disease. ...Read moreGet help from a doctor now ›
Not likely: Zyrtec (cetirizine) is a new generation with a good safety profile. While the usual dose of zyrtec is 10 mg once a day for allergies, there is scientific evidence that higher doses even up to 4x the usual dose is helpful for severe hives. So, two doses of zyrtec is unlikely to cause significant side effects except perhaps a little drowsy. ...Read moreGet help from a doctor now ›
Sedation: That dose of zyrtec is going to be very sedating. This defeats the purpose of taking zyrtec instead of benadryl. That level of sedation will make you a drowsy --> dangerous driver. Have you tried Loratadine or allegra? Do you use Flonase or something like it? Do you regularly flush your nose with a saline/ baking soda solution? ...Read moreGet help from a doctor now ›

I usually take 2 xyzal/day but can't get it refilled anymore. Also, my allergies have started breaking through on it. Should I take two zyrtec?
Under an allergist supervision I take two zyrtecs in the morning with a ranitadine. At nite I take singular and ranitadine and cyproheptadine. Can I take two zyrtecs at night instead of the ranitadine and cyproheptadine?
Zyrtec dose: Yes, you can take more zyrtec total per day if you tolerate it well. When patients have severe urticaria, we often have them take even more than 4 zyrtec tablets daily. The initial studies with zyrtec used doses of 10-40 mg, or up to 4 tablets at a time. You can still take the ranitidine and montelukast at night also, if they help you. They do not affect the dose of antihistamine. ...Read moreGet help from a doctor now ›
For a cough that has been lingering for nearly two weeks after a cold : I take zyrtec daily, if it was allergies would nasacort help?
Bronchospasm: Sometimes you can have residual bronchospasm after an upper respiratory infection for weeks after you feel better. Using cough lozenges may help, over the counter cough suppressants at night to help sleep, or talking with your doctor to see if an inhaler may be helpful until your cough improves over the course of the next couple of weeks. Doubtful Nasacort will help with the cough. ...Read moreGet help from a doctor now ›
