I take 20MG Celexa (citalopram) around bedtime and I just got 50MG trazodone for insomnia. Is it alright if I take them both at the same time at bedtime?

I take 20MG Celexa (citalopram) around bedtime and I just got 50MG trazodone for insomnia. Is it alright if I take them both at the same time at bedtime?

Medication effects: Using Celexa (citalopram) with Trazodone can increase the risk of a rare but serious Serotonin Syndrome- confusion, hallucination, seizure, extreme changes in blood pressure; and
increased risk of rare irregular heart rhythm that may be serious and potentially life-threatening.

See your Psychiatrist to discuss medication interaction, benefits and side effects; or go to ER for Diagnosis and Treatment. ...Read more

Can you take trazadone 50 mg, temazepam 30 mg 1.5 grams of l-tryptophan and 325 mg of magnesium all together?

Can you take trazadone 50 mg, temazepam 30 mg 1.5 grams of l-tryptophan and 325 mg of magnesium all together?

Probably but why: YOu can probably take all this with little in the way of harm. I feel that if you need the trazodone that is fine. The temazepam might be all you need. Would not use the tryptophan as the temazepam and the trazodone should be all you need. I would skip the magnesium. ...Read more

Is it ok to take trazodone 50 mg at bedtime and 5-htp 100 mg for day time around 8 am?

Is it ok to take trazodone 50 mg at bedtime and 5-htp 100 mg for day time around 8 am?

Yes: This is a bit tricky because both trazodone and 5-HTP increase serotonin levels and thus, high doses of these together could lead to serotonin syndrome, a dangerous condition. However, 50 mg is a very moderate dose of trazodone and 100 mg of 5-HTP is not a high dose, so this might have an effect similar to increasing trazodone to 75 mg or so which is a safe dose. ...Read more

Study your problem: The BEST way to solve your problem is to know exactly WHY you suffer from insomnia and address those reasons instead of just giving you medicine which eventually is not going to work AT ALL. Study your problem 1st, discover the cause, attack the cause, cure the problem. You weren't born an insomniac. No reason to think you were. Want to meet online? Www. Healthtap. I was on 25mg of Trazodone for a little over a month, in that time I've lost almost 30% of my hair. It has been a week Off of. When does it stop??!

Hair loss: Trazodone as an antidepressant would not normally cause hair loss, and at 25mg the dose is so exceptionally small (even for sleep, 50mg is a normal start dose, and when it was used for antidepressant purpose dose was much larger). Much more likely that some other factors are relevant. If you started the med for some stressor, what was the original stress, or what else going on in your life? ...Read more

Is trazodone and oxycodone in the same family of drugs?

If I don't take my trazodone can I take NyQuil night time cold and flu medicine?

No: Consult your prescriber, but I believe Trazodone hangs around awhile in your system & may interact w/some OTC meds. Besides, I don't recommend the combination OTC cold meds bc they may contain unnecessary, & even dangerous, ingredients. For thick mucous, use plain guafenisin. For allergies, use otc certrizine. For runny nose that clear mucous, if no HTN, phenylephrine or sudafed ...Read more

I'm on the following 15mg 3 times daily buspar 60mg daily paxil 50mg trazodone 20mg omprazole ec my question is.... How serious is grapefruit juice?

Probably avoid: Because of the impact of grapefruit juice on the cyp450 enzymes that metabolize most psychotropic medications, it is generally advised for all people taking these meds to avoid grapefruit juice. Taking trazodone with prazosin my doctor recently diagnosed me with combat related ptsd which have been causing nightmares. While waiting to see a psychologist she prescribed low dose prazosin and low dose trazodone for the time being. I was researching b

Several: Several studies and case reports suggest that prazosin can benefit individuals with ptsd in reducing sleep disturbances and nightmares. Daytime prazosin has been reported to reduce distress related to trauma cues. However, as you correctly pointed out, taking trazodone and prozosin together could cause undesirable side effects. Why? Both drugs act on so-called alpha-1 adrenergic receptors causing their blockade. This often results in hypotension or drop in blood pressure, especially when the person rapidly changes his or her body posture. This could result in dizziness and sudden increase in the heart rate. Both drugs could also cause excessive sedation. If you already taking medications for high blood pressure, prazosin and trazodone may potentiate their action, causing undesirably low blood pressure. However, the final decision in recommending both prazosin and trazodone rests with your physician who examined you and knows your medical history. Hope this information helps but please do not hesitate to contact my office if you have further questions. ...Read more

Will my side effect of a pounding heart fade away in time 'been on trazodone 2 days.

SSRI side effect: Early in treatment with ssri anti-depressants, an early side effect can be an increased arousal state (which can present like anxiety or insomnia, or elevated heart rate). This is due to the change in neurotransmitter level in the brain and will go away, usually within 1-2 weeks on a given dose. Every dose increase, the side effect will return&then resolve. If it is not tolerable, call your doctor! ...Read more
