Do I have to take antibiotics (prevpac) for h.Pylori if i don't have any ulcers or serious symptoms?

Do I have to take antibiotics (prevpac) for h.Pylori if i don't have any ulcers or serious symptoms?

Yes: H. Pylori can cause serious future symptoms (ulcers, perforation, stomach cancer). Not treating it can adversely affect you in the future, even if you don't have symptoms today. My advice is to discuss your specific concerns with your doctor who prescribed it, and then to take it. ...Read more

I had h.Pylori infx treated w/prevpac, egd confirmed ulcer healed and stool antigen test confirmed h.Pylori eradicated in oct'12. Why symptoms returned?

Some thing else: Pain returning after h.Pylori eradication and ulcer healing could be due to reinfection with h.Pylori, recurrence of ulcer unrelated to h.Pylori, non-ulcer dyspepsia, or pain arising from gallbladder or pancreas. ...Read more

Was prescribed Prevpac along with metronidazole for h.pylori, any concerns with this combo? I take Diltiazem, accupril, (quinapril) levothyroxin

Be aware : Prevpac (lansoprazole amoxicillin and clarithromycin) can decrease levothyroxin effectiveness & increase risk for hypothyroidism. Prevpac (lansoprazole amoxicillin and clarithromycin) can increase diltiazem effectiveness which would increase risk for hypotension. Probably mild effect, so no worries but be aware. ...Read more

Digestive problems: Well a gastroenterologist is an 'expert' in this field - so hopefully something can get worked out for you to have the full evaluation, which helps direct the best treatment. In the meantime, you could try various things for improvement. I'm a big fan of ginger. I recc ginger tea, ginger candies, anything with ginger. Take ginger root, boil for 10 min, add honey -see if that helps. Feel better! ...Read more

After taking prevpack triple therapy for 14days, if no more h pylori symptoms do I still need to test again? If so how long after the treatment?

Probably not: If you desire confirmatory testing it can be performed at virtually any time after a presumptive successful course of therapy. Good luck. ...Read more

I'm taking prevpack triple therapy for 14 days . Will it eradicate all the h pylori bacteria in one single treatment?

That is the plan: But not always. Occasionally, if you have continued symptoms and are retested and found to have continued h pylori, you may need second course or different antibiotic (choice depending on what doc you speak with). However, the prevpack is suppose to treat it and hopefully end the infection and relieve your symptoms. ...Read more

. Since this antibiotic is strong, could it kill all the bacteria in one single treatment?

H. Pylori: Prevpac (lansoprazole amoxicillin and clarithromycin) is a good agent to treat h. Pylori, but it will not be effective to only take one time dose. You need to follow your doctor's prescription, which is one dose bid for 14 days. Do not take one dose then stop since this will cause antibiotic resistance in the future and make the bacteria more difficult to be treated. ...Read more
