Weight gain etc: Most of my patients on Premarin (conjugated estrogens) do quite well as the benefits of taking it far out weigh the risks. Weight gain, bloating, breast , uterus cancer, blood clot , ht attack, stoke. These are all very uncommon in a healthy person taking this medication. No but: You are on a low dose of estrogen and your body would not "go bonkers" but you may begin to have hot flushes, vaginal dryness, insomnia, and mood swings. Without the estrogen your risk will begin to increase for stroke, heart attack, colon cancer, alzheimer's disease, and osteoporosis. Depends: Not if you're having regular menses. Your doctor may prescribe Progesterone to induce periods, or lo-dose daily therapy to prevent them -- some physicians would not want you to receive either.
