What are my chances of getting liver disease while taking arava (leflunomide) and methotrexate together?

A child is on methotrexate 12.5mg once weekly for JRA. She was prescribed amoxicillin for a sinus infection. Is it okay for her to be taking these together? I saw that there is a potential for interaction between the two.

Yes but not a major: Yes there is an interaction but not at the doses we use for arthritis. the amoxicillin can increase the level of methotrexate. This is a problem with the high anti-cancer doses we use to treat malignancy. But you may want to hold the methotrexate until the sinus infection clears. ...Read more

Question for rheumatologists : we can give nsaids and low dose corticostiroids together for patient on RA waiting for dmards to take its efficacy ?

Yes and no: This type of combination is common, but since each class of medication increases risk for GI side effects, caution is important. Using a medication such as Omeprazole to protect the stomach is a good idea, and minimizing the dose and duration of the corticosteroid is very important. ...Read more
