What are the residual side effects are after taking chantix?

What are the residual side effects are after taking chantix?

Really none: Have been reported that persist after the drug is stopped. There is a great deal of controversy over whether suicidal thoughts or actions are truly increased with chantix, since such thoughts/actions occur in people stopping smoking in general, and not all studies have shown this. Same with the cardiac problems. I have mostly seen vivid dreams and nightmares, and they have gone away after stopping. ...Read more

What is chantix?

What is chantix?

A medication: Used for smoking cessation, which together with a counseling program can achieve quit rates of 40% or so. It is a partial nicotine receptor agonist, which means it activates the same receptors as nicotine, but does not turn them fully on, so it reduces craving and treats nicotine withdrawal without having full nicotine effects. It may also help reduce alcohol use. Can cause depression rarely. ...Read more

No drug interactions: There are no drug interactions but you must be aware of the fact that Chantix can cause depression, particularly in people who are depression prone. I don't know exactly why you are taking zoloft, (sertraline) but if you are taking it for depression then be extra careful. If you have even one day of significant depression I would recommend that you stop the Chantix immediately and call your treating physician. ...Read more

Yes: It is relatively short-acting. I hope that you continue to try to stop smoking, however, despite stopping the Chantix for whatever reason. I've been on chantix for a month and quit. Am I okay to stop chantix and quit on my own?

Chantix: Congratulations on quitting this long. Your long term health is rosier! Many people take Chantix for longer to help with longer term craving. Even though you have quit, cravings are still possible, and Chantix can help with these. If you have no side effects, remember that the longer you don't smoke, the less likely to relapse, but it is a judgement call. ...Read more

What to do if I am about to start chantix thi weekend, can you take it before going to bed?

Not recommended: It is started at a once a day dose, and I recommend it early in the morning. One of the most common side effects are very vivid and sometimes scary dreams/nightmares and these happen more if its taken late in the day. When you start taking it twice daily, which is the maintenance dose, I recommend 6am and 6 pm, not right before bed. Good luck with quitting!! ...Read more
