If I want to stop taking Effexor, (venlafaxine) how can I do it without experiencing the withdrawal symptoms?
Speak to your doc: Effexor (venlafaxine) is not a simple drug. In some cases it might be detrimental to your health to stop it abruptly. My Dr has taken me off lexapro and told me to go ahead and start taking effexor (venlafaxine) with no tapering off. Do i still need to expect with drawl symptoms fr?
Stopping Lexapro (escitalopram): You don't say what dose of Lexapro you've been taking or for how long. Both dosage and duration of Lexapro are factors in determining how to discontinue this med. That said, since Effexor (venlafaxine) has the same serotonin increasing property as Lexapro, withdrawal from abruptly stopping is less likely. However, if you experience any withdrawal symptoms, eg, malaise, nausea, insomnia, tell prescribing doc. ...Read more
Been taking Effexor (venlafaxine) XR 75mg for over amonth, 40mg vyvanse.17, female, 125 lbs. Can I have a few alc drinks ? Will skip meds for day prior and after help?
No, please don't: Alcohol and antidepressants do not mix well, and using alcohol can exacerbate your depression/anxiety. Skipping meds is unwise also. Effexor (venlafaxine) requires consistent dosing for at least 4-6 weeks for effectiveness -- and maybe your wanting to drink alcohol now is evidence that you've had some improvement. If so, please don't mess it up. Best wishes. ...Read more

Going off Effexor (venlafaxine): Let's assume your doctors have good reasons. But it could entail a discontinuation syndrome, if your doctor doesn't do it right. Your doctor should be ready with an alternative medicine. ...Read more
