Taking Creatine In Well Controlled Hypothyroid
Do statins have any role in increasing serum creatinine? I well controlled DM type2 on oral antidiabetics and Hypertension controlled Ca channel block
Maybe at high doses: LIMITED data has suggested that statins at higher doses, i.e. more than 40 mg simvastatin a day, might contribute to acute renal failure. This is counter intuitive because, in general, the effects of statins would be very favorable for those at risk for renal failure, such as yourself, with Type2 DM & hypertension. Most experts still recommend statins in this situation unless pt on dialysis. ...Read more
Are there herbal supplements that increase thyroid levels for those of us w hypothyroid and suffering frm symptoms still on synthroid (thyroxine)?2 use carefully!
Not recommended: Without a consult with your endocrinologist, you really should not add anything, especially an herbal remedy. This is because the strengh of these supplements is unclear, as is how they may interact with your current meds. If you are still suffering from symptoms, don't give up. Work with your doc to find some balance that works for you. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

My TSH levels are 4.67.My prenatal vitamins don't have iodine. Can I take iodine supplements along with levothyroxine?or levothyroxine is sufficient?
Not iodine deficient: Hi. No one in America is iodine deficient. If you're hypothyroid, it's because of autoimmune destruction of the gland (assuming you haven't had thyroid surgery). Giving more iodine when you're already replete will not help. Is that TSH on l-thyroxine? You need a dose increase if it is. Take your l-thyroxine, and don't worry about the iodine. Good luck! ...Read more
Hi Im taking floradix &Vit B12 to cure anemia caused by low nutrition(Doc Prescribed)Along with im taking Biotin 5000mcg for shiny hair is that safe?
A large dose!: Biotin, also known as vitamin H, is part of B complex vitamins. It is best to take B vitamins together as they may act as cofactors for each other. There are no reported safety concerns about biotin taken with your other supplements, but 5000 mcg is a very large dose; the recommended daily requirement is only 30 mcg! At a minimum, cut it WAY BACK! ...Read more

Taking herbs and d-aspartic acid, 23 years hormones checked only t levels low testicles ultrasounded are fine should I take natural anti estrogens with?
The herbs : And Amino Acids are a waste of money. You don't know what's in them or what it's supposed to do to help you. If your t level is low, it needs a medical evaluation. Keep lean and avoid anabolics, tobacco, alcohol, and other toxins, plus certain medication. Finally, there are no "natural" antiestrogens, and you would need them if there were any. Don't listen to friends, tv or the internet. ...Read more
61 yr. Female with TSH 12.23 (12 hr. Fast). I supplement a few drops of atomized iodine transdermal. Mom/sister have thyroid issues - take synthroid (thyroxine).
Hypothryroid: By definition you are hypothyroid, though it would be useful to know your levels of free T3 (liothyronine) & free t4. However, the most important question is if you have symptoms of hypothyroidism- see http://www.Stopthethyroidmadness.Com/long-and-pathetic/ iodine is usually fine but you will likely benefit from taking thyroid if you are symptomatic. ...Read more

Will taking phentermine affect your hormones and/or thyroid function tests? I currently take phen and I'm hypothyroid so I take that medication also.
Not a problem: Phentermine should not cause hormonal issues and will not interfere with the medication you take for hypothyroidism. Please understand that phentermine only works while you are taking it and you must learn to change your diet and exercise patterns or the weight will come back when you stop the drug. Good luck. ...Read more

Hyperthyroid which was managed with Carbimazole & stable for 3yrs. Levels creeping up again (just in normal). Is there any benefit to carnitine supps?
Hyperthyroid: Carnitine will not help. The dose of carmimazole/methimazole needed will often change over time, and the course of the hyperthyroidism can change. You may need a dose adjustment of the medicaiton. This is why many Endocrinologists recommend definitive treatment with radioactive iodine or surgery. ...Read more
On 50 mcg of Synthroid (thyroxine) for mild hypothyroidism. I also have high blood press and tachycardia. In on topeol for. Could Synthroid (thyroxine) cause cardiac effects?
Unlikely: Synthroid (thyroxine) can cause high blood pressure and tachycardia if the dose is too high. The only way to prove this is to check your thyroid level. If the level is normal, i would look for another etiology for the symptoms above. Synthroid (thyroxine) 50 mcg is a very low dose and is unlikely to be the cause for your symptoms. See your doc to get your labs check. Good luck. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
