Taking Ambien While Pregnant
No.: Severe neonatal respiratory depression has been reported when zolpidem was used at the end of pregnancy, especially when used concurrently with other CNS depressants. Studies of prenatal exposure to zolpidem have not been conducted in children. Children born of mothers taking sedative/hypnotics may be at risk for withdrawal; neonatal flaccidity has been reported in infants following maternal use. ...Read more
When your due date arrives, you will be more than ready to have your baby! Most women deliver the baby somewhere between 37 and 42 weeks. According to the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, only 5% of babies arrive on the exact due date. Approximately 7% of babies are not delivered by 42 weeks, and when that happens, it is referred to ...Read more

Avoid if possible: There is not enough info to determine the safety of Ambien (zolpidem) during pregnancy. Some data suggest that it can cross the placenta and affect the fetus. I just found out I was pregnant and have been taking 0.5 mg Xanax (alprazolam) and 10mg ambien once daily can it cause cleft palate?
Genes and Folate (folic acid) 1st: Xanax (alprazolam) is category D and can cause skeletal abnormalities. Ambient is category C so effects are unknown. Can ambien cause a positive pregnancy test? I've read it can. How long will it cause a false positive if it does?
Hmmm....: Haven't heard from any reliable source that Ambien causes a false positive pregnancy test. That means a person can have a false positive test with or without taking Ambien... meaning the two events are unrelated coincidences. A urine pregnancy test is very accurate 3 weeks after sex. If unsure of the result, can repeat a test after 1 more week. ...Read more

Pregnancy sleep help: The fda rates safety of drugs in pregnancy from category a (controlled studies showing no fetal risk) to x (proven risks to fetus outweigh maternal benefit). Ambien is category b: presumed safe, based on animal studies; no well-controlled human studies available.
