Doctor insights on:
Taking 2 Claritin
Not much: Many people are prescribed antihistamines at greater than standard doses to treat various conditions. Taking two of the standard 10mg tablets should not do much other than possibly make you sleepy. If you are going to take two don't drive or plan on working after you take them.See 1 more doctor answer
Good morning Would taking two Claritin cause dizziness and lightheaded? Thank you. Have a good day
Yes, . .. answer: Female? Age Very politely asks... Would taking two Claritin cause dizziness and lightheaded? Thank You. Have a good day. Yes, is the simple answer. But it also depends on Why one needed the Claritin in the First place. One should also note that there is a reason why medications are limited in their dosage. Claritin 10mg is recommended as One tablet only in 24hrs. See PCP if symptoms persist.See 2 more doctor answers
Not if: They are the 12 hour pills, yes if the 24 hour pills.
After taking 2 days of Claritin (loratadine) d 24 hour then stopping how long can I expect the side effect to last. It stimulated my anxiety.
About 24 hours: Decongestants like the 'D' in this version of Claritin (loratadine) can have side effects like restlessness, increased heart rate and blood pressure. It's an extended release formula which helps it last 24 hrs. After that 24hrs, the last bit of the D to be released should be pretty much out of your system within another 24hrs. If having prolonged or worrisome symptoms, seek medical care.See 1 more doctor answer
How does Claritin (loratadine) work? I'm wondering what would happen when I take two, how does it effect my body. And if I take one and I still feel itchy, would taking two help control my symptoms more?
Yes: Antihistamines are usually safe even when the dose is doubled.
Sometimes: While the usual dose of Claritin (loratadine) is 10 mg once a day, there are circumstances where allergists may use higher doses to treat persistent hives. Drowsiness in more likely to occur with higher than recommended doses of claritin, (loratadine) but in general, severe or significant side effects are unlikely.
Probably: Doubling the dose may not provide additional relief and may be more likely to cause sedation.See 1 more doctor answer
Yes: Yes, no problem. Loratadine is safe to take before 24 hours is up.
Conflicting advice from two drs on Claritin (loratadine) d otc. One says take indefinitely, other stop?
D is decongestant: Claritin-d contains two drugs, an antihistaminic named Loratadine and a decongestant adrenergic called pseudoephedrine. It is best to use each drug according to what is intended for. Antihistaminics are to control histamine release and decongestant to reduce swelling and secretions. Continuous use of antihistaminics are helpful for perennial allergies, such as to dust mite.
He just took two daytime Claritin (loratadine). He has no known health problems, but will this effect him?
Yes, but why?: Studies of loritadine show the medication is well tolerated at twice the recommended 10 mg dose. However, the same studies show no added benefit of the double dose in symptom relief over the regular dose schedule. If one is not working well, you may want to try otc fexofenadine or a steroid nasal spray.
It may make u Drowsy: The full adult dose of Loratadine in other parts of the world is 20 mg. This amount caused a 12-14% drowsiness rate. The 10 mg dose was tested in the us in order to find a non-drowsy dose and it worked. If your allergy symptoms are controlled with Diphenhydramine (benadryl-50% drowsiness) and not 10 mg loratadine, you can try a second 10 mg dose and it may help with a lot less drowsiness.
Mgt: I think it should not result in harmful side effects. If you do notice any changes, please report them right away to your PCP.See 1 more doctor answer
How much of an effect will Loratadine have on panel testing if inadvertently taken within a day or two of beginning the test?
Not much: If anything. By panel testing, I presume you mean standard blood tests measuring usual chemistries done for a check-up. If by panel testing you mean allergy skin tests, the recommendation is to avoid antihistamines for a full 48 hours prior to testing as the drug may diminish otherwise positive skin test reactions. Drugs of abuse tests should not be affected. I hope this helps. Stay well:)
