See G.I. Doctor: Reflux of acid and food does not indicate that the anti acid, in this case nexium, (esomeprazole) is the culprit. The food indicates a mechanical problem of competancy of the sphincter mucsle between the stomach and the esophagus. It is necessary to see a gastroenterologist to have this problem evaluated. ...Read more
Why are you suppose to take Nexium (esomeprazole) in the morning and an hour before a meal? Why can't you take it with a meal?
Nexium: Nexium works by shutting off proton pumps. Return pumps turn on to produce acid when the food comes into the stomach. Therefore, the Nexium needs to be in the system before the food gets there, to shut the proton pumps down. Otherwise, acid will be produced once the food arrives in the stomach. That's why you take the Nexium before the meal. Hope that helps. ...Read more

In case of severe acid reflux is it ok to take nexium (esomeprazole) and zentac same day few hours apart?
Once I have acid reflux I need to take nexium (esomeprazole) for. How many days or until the symptom goes off?
1-4 days to benefit: PPI's differ as to duration of action, side effects, tolerance, cost/insurance coverage. All PPI's are equally efficacious, so what options exist after you complete your course of esomeprazole depends on your therapeutic response (e.g. symptom resolution, persistence, recurrence?) as well as the cause of your gastritis (e.g. if H.pylori was found, has it been treated to eradication?) ...Read more

When is it best to take Nexium (esomeprazole) at before bed? Or in the morning before breakfast? I have heard multiple things, and how long till it works?
Nexium (esomeprazole): Is a 24 hour drug. Personally I don't think it matters when you take it as long as you take it at approx the same time daily. It is not a take it as you need it drug. It does take a couple of days to start working well depending on the severity of your symptoms. ...Read more
My family and I are having sulfur smelling and tasting burps twice a month. They resolve but reappear. What is this. I also gave gurd and take nexium (esomeprazole).?
Evaluate diet/ water: It would be good to track and evaluate your diet to see if there are patterns- twice a month. Might be good to have your drinking water tested or use a filter. Gerd is gastro esophageal reflux disease, which would cause the burping regularly vs twice a month. Nexium (esomeprazole) should reduce the acidity. Simethicone will help with the gas and burping. ...Read more

If necessary, you can use Tums as needed when you are having your symptoms. Good luck. ...Read more

I take Nexium (esomeprazole) 40mg twice daily can I take Pepcid complete also? I'm still having acid with food coming up.
Don't combine them: If your symptoms are so severe you're considering doubling up on acid blockers, you need medical evaluation. Please see your physician asap. It looks like you've already had endoscopy, so you already have a gastroenterologist who knows your case. Please contact this physician for more individualized advice -- and you might consider a good probiotic and some Tums (calcium carbonate) in the meantime. ...Read more
Dr. Told me to take Nexium, (esomeprazole) but it interacts badly with my Valium. I haven't found any interaction with Prevacid. Ok to take with Valium?
Probably: There are drug interactions between almost everything. I can tell you many people take a proton pump inhibitor and a benzodiazepine without any problem, especially if both are taken on as needed basis. I assume you are already avoiding foods that provoke acid reflux, and working on weight loss if overweight. That will cut down need for drugs like nexium, (esomeprazole) unless you have other reasons for taking it ...Read more
