Does Benadryl (diphenhydramine) help swelling caused by bigen dye for the face? My face swole up because of it can I take Benadryl (diphenhydramine) to reduce swelling or penicillin.
ER or dermatologist: Please go to an ER or dermatologist. Severe reactions are reported due to the dyes and chemicals in bigen. This is not something that I can give advice for online. Someone needs to see your face, your scalp and acess the entire situation. Secondary staph infections have been reported as well. Please see someone immediately to get an accurate assessment of the condition and treatment. Best to you. ...Read more
How much famotidine can I take for an allergic reaction? I have a red, itchy, and very hot to the touch rash on my face . I do take 10mg of loratidine
Meds for itchy rash: Regular antihistamine comes first for itchy rash. Loratadine is the weakest, barely effective. Zyrtec and Allegra are stronger and so are chlortrimeton and Benadryl (diphenhydramine) . You can take zyrtec 10 mg or allegra 180 mg more than once a day if itching returns. You can take up to 50 mg Benadryl (diphenhydramine) four times a day, but don't drive. Famotidine is of limited use; use 20 mg twice a day . Cortisone 10 may be OK. ...Read more

Needs a good work up: Thyroid disease and sarcoidosis may be associated with skin problems. So there is more than simple allergy. Also, the drug of choice for cold-induced urticaria (if this is really the case for him), is not diphenhydramine (Benadryl) but cyproheptadine (Periactin), Still, needs to see a Board-certified allergist-immunologist. ...Read moreSee 3 more doctor answers
Hi, Can sun burn cause body parts to be swollen? I think my son got a sun burn and it caused one of his ears to be swollen. Benadryl (diphenhydramine) did not help.
Absolutley: Certainly burned areas of your body can swell. The cells are damaged and then leak fluid causing the swelling. Benadryl won't help because it's not an allergic reaction. It's trauma/damage to the skin cells and an anti-histamine won't help that. Keep cool compresses on affected areas, give Tylenol (acetaminophen) for pain, have him drink lots of fluids. Next time prevention is key with repeated use of sun screen. ...Read more

I have got swelling on lips very frequently, seems like an allergy...I take anti allergy for it to get rid of swelling..It is limited to lips only.
Sounds good: Sunburn is response of the tissues to injury from solar radiation. It is simply inflammation which means increase blood flow to the area to promote healing. Do not use ice as this can injure already injured skin. Cool water soaks can help as can taking anti-inflammation medicines like Motrin or advil (ibuprofen). Avoid any further damage as this can cause scarring . Good skin cream applied daily/gently helps. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
