20 year old daughter with painful plantar wart which has been resistant to normal OTC treatments. Read that tagamet (cimetidine) may help. Any harm in trying?
I'm treating my plantar wart with aldara (imiquimod) and tagamet. It's much less tender now but hasn't diminished in size very much. Is the treatment working?

Recommended dosage of cimetidine for 20 yr old to treat paintful plantar wart? Other OTCs not working, want to try this before more invasive measures.
800mg BID: The average dose I use in stubborn warts is 800mg twice a day for the average 150 lb person. Cimetidine usually won't work by itself for warts. The theory behind a H2 antihistamine is that chronic warts are sensitive to moisture and PH changes. Tagamet (cimetidine) will lower gastric Acid over time causing overall body PH to increase slightly. Use with a topical wart remover. Also keep feet dry. ...Read more
I'm taking 800mg 2x/day of cimetidine for plantar warts. Is there any reason this can affect my frozen embryo transfer?
Reduces stomach acid: Tagamet (cimetidine) reduces production of stomach acid through blocking h2 receptors on the gastric parietal cell. This helps reduce aid indigestion / heartburn and can help heal erosions of the lining of either the esophagus or stomach. The h2 blockers are not as potent as the proton pump inhibitors such as omeprazole. ...Read more
Stomach acid reducer: Tagamet (cimetidine) is one of the older drugs used for stomach and duodenal ulcers. Before tagamet (cimetidine) persons on occasion had to have part of their stomach surgically removed to treat ulcers. Tagamet (cimetidine) significantly reduced stomach acid production allowing the ulcer to heal. It is not quite as strong for a better word as say Prilosec which blocks all acid production but at a low cost tagamet (cimetidine) 300 may be just fine. ...Read more
An old acid blocker: Tagamet (cimetidine), Zantac (ranitidine), Pepcid (famotidine) are H2-receptor blockers, introduced by prescription in late 70's/early 80's. All reduce acid production dose-dependently, & promote drug tolerance (requiring increasing doses of drug to block increasing # of receptors with chronic use). OTC dosing is a fraction of original prescription doses. Similar side effects, efficacy, duration. ...Read more

How long would it take testosterone levels to return to normal after they were dropped from tagamet (cimetidine)?
Reversible: The reduction in testosterone that can occur with Cimetidine is caused by a reversible antagonism of testosterone synthesis - which means that if you are affected by this, then as soon as the drug is out of your body, your testosterone levels should return to previous levels. A level checked 2 weeks after stopping Cimetidine should be at your baseline. ...Read more
Would tagamet (cimetidine) have the potential to effect a testosterone test the same day? In other. Words temporarily lower it for the test? Thanks so much
Tagamet (cimetidine) only: Affects testosterone at very high doses over a prolonged period of time. It is unlikely that one dose could lower the level enough to make the test abnormal. If there's a concern, stop the tagamet (cimetidine) and repeat the test at a later date. Talk w/your doctor. ...Read more
