Facing problem hair lose & weight gain. Have done thyroid test and result is t3-99.22, t4-3.98, TSH-20.21. What medicine I should take & for how long?

Facing problem hair lose & weight gain. Have done thyroid test and result is t3-99.22, t4-3.98, TSH-20.21. What medicine I should take & for how long?

Thyroid: Those thyroid numbers do not make sense to me. The TSH is high and usually the T3 (liothyronine) and T4 are low causing the TSH to work hard to get your thyroid working properly. Call your doctor to see if those numbers are correct. If he says yes ask for a referral to an Endocrinologist. ...Read more

I have pcos. Will losing weight help with abnormal hair growth?

I have pcos. Will losing weight help with abnormal hair growth?

Yes: Weight loss will help with all symptoms of pcos including excess hair growth. Unfortunately the excess hair that has become darker and thicker may not go away completely, but weight loss will prevent new hair from growing. You may still need to apply other methods for completely getting rid of the excess hair such as laser. Talk to your doctor if weight loss does not completely address hair growth. ...Read more

I have pcos I am gaining weight bad and my hair growth has worsened a lot also I have the birth control implant in arm what can I take 2 lose weight?

PCOS and acne: First of all, depoprovera is probably the worst birth control for someone with pcos because it is very androgenic. See if they can switch you to one called mircette (ethinyl estradiol and desogestrel). The Progesterone in Mircette (ethinyl estradiol and desogestrel) is much more friendly and helps the acne and hirsutism (hair growth) that are so common with pcos. In general noerithindrone-like progesterones are very androgenic (testosterone-like) and bad for pcos. ...Read more

Male pattern baldnes: Male pattern baldness in a female sounds really odd. I don't know how you got that diagnosis but it sounds to me like you should go see an endocrinologist and bring with you any test results of things that you already have done to you. You live in LA. Go to one of the University Medical Centers and get a good workup. ...Read more

Imaging: If not done so, proper imaging of the thyroid is indicated, including ultrasound and nuclear thyroid uptake scan. You may be suffering from hashimoto's thyroiditis, an immunologic condition that affects your thyroid gland causing inflammation and often leads to an underactive thyroid gland (hypothyroidism). Not hypothyroid: Your TSH was within normal range(0.4-0.6 ) 4 months ago indicating you were not hypothyroid then and were on the proper dose of Synthroid (thyroxine). Your current Free T4 is within normal limits. However your TSH is slightly low which suggests that your current dose of Synthroid (thyroxine) is slightly too high and can be reduced. YOU ARE NOT HYPOTHYROID and your symptoms are not due to this. ...Read more
