T Bact Ointment For Scars
My baby scratched me very hard down the side of my face. What do I do to ensure healing and prevent scarring? Can I use bactroban (mupirocin) ointment i have?
Simple treatment: If there is no evidence of infection then plain vaseline on the site to keep it moist will give you the best chance at healing with minimal scarring for most superficial injuries. Topical antibiotic ointments usually don't do much for you unless the wound was dirty (baby fingers can be dirty sometimes). If you are concerned then please see your doctor. ...Read more

Short term use: I generally recommend Mupirocin for mild, superficial infections that don't warrant the use of systemic antibiotics. I will also use it in the nostrils to reduce carriage of methicillin-resistant staph aureus (mrsa). There may be some other cases where I would consider Mupirocin but I would have to think about that one. ...Read more
Can I shower, while using mupirocin ointment, do I cover the affected area or is okay to get it wet?
OINTMENTS as a "VEHICLE" (carrying agent" are more resistant to the effects of water they can be washed off. I would "time" your showers at the end of the suggested time for application of the ointment (eg three time /day at the end of an 8-hour period!
Just be safe....be well
Hope this helps
