Hi please could you tell me what the symptoms of a vaginal strep or staph infection would be, thanks?

Hi please could you tell me what the symptoms of a vaginal strep or staph infection would be, thanks?

Sometimes none: Both of these bacteria can normally exist in the vagina. Usually symptoms don't occur un less the bacteria overgrows. At that point symptoms may include a vaginal discharge and possibly odor.

Infection (Definition)

Infections are invasions of some other organism (fungus, bacteria, parasite) or viruses into places where they do not belong. For instance, we have normal gut bacteria that live within us without causing problems; however, when those penetrate the bowel wall and enter the bloodstream, ...Read more

Diagnosed with group B strep infection? How did I get this? What are symptoms? I have a lot of watery/bloody discharge during sex. Related?

Common pest: Group b strep is a periodic visitor to the digestive tract and at any given time 30% of women may have it show up on a vaginal swab. Except for it's well known nasty habit of hurting newborns & occasionally causing urinary tract infections it can be just a benign hitchhiker in your system. If you have urinary symptoms antibiotic treatment may be helpful, but rarely eliminates this germ permanently

Needs more time: It takes a few days for antibiotics to be effective; 48 hours is too soon. Also, many (maybe all) your symptoms are due to a virus, not strep or other bacteria -- and antibiotics have no effect at all on viruses. In any case, keep taking the antibiotic as prescribed and contact the doc who prescribed it if not improving after a week, or if especially severe symptoms before then. Good luck!

Can bacterial infections happen that's not strep and show symptoms in your tonsils? If so, what does it make you feel like and can it kill you?

Yes: Pharyngitis can be caused by other bacteria and viruses. Overall, it may make you feel bad, but they all go away within a few days by themselves (with a normal immune system), with or without treatment. The reason we treat strep is that is can cause other problems down the road, like rheumatic heart disease. Danger would be severe swelling of tonsils, which is fairly rare. See a doctor.

Tonsil swollen with green infection-like mucous on the tonsil. Recently had cold with same symptoms. Noticed it came back after oral sex. Strep or STI?

Tonsil swollen with green infection-like mucous on the tonsil. Recently had cold with same symptoms. Noticed it came back after oral sex. Strep or STI?

Hard to guess: Usually, a person with new throat symptoms can be tested in the clinic with rapid test swabs for strep throat and influenza. Tonsillitis may also be mono (the EBV virus). Now, throw in some oral sex and the day gets more interesting. One must tell his doctor what "oral sex" refers to, and what diseases his partner might have. The doctor can then do additional tests and maybe use other medications.

What are symptoms of a strep and staph infection on the penis? Are they similar? Tiny red dots on penis glans when erect?

What are symptoms of a strep and staph infection on the penis? Are they similar? Tiny red dots on penis glans when erect?

Skin infection: Red, pain, small dots, large red swelling. It really doesn't matter. You have something wrong with your penis right now and it is not wise to wait this out or to nit-pick if one does not have all of the possible symptoms. Your doctor needs to see this and to get you treated.

25 y o healthy male has a fever after taking amoxosyillin for 2 days for strep. All the symptoms of strep and an ear infection. No chills. Fever 102.?

Change antibiotic: Amoxicillin is ok, but Augmentin (Amoxicillin plus clavulanate) is better or clindamycin. You could also have a viral infection that could be causing the fever as well. Add Motrin or tylenol (acetaminophen) for the fever.

31/F. high WBC, with high neutrophils and decrrased lymphs. Symptoms of sinus infection and possible strep throat. Temp of 95.5?

31/F. high WBC, with high neutrophils and decrrased lymphs. Symptoms of sinus infection and possible strep throat. Temp of 95.5?

Sinus infection: Strept can give you a high white count and the change or shift in the type of cells to predominantly neutrophils is to be expected. The low temp could be secondary to the thermometer not functioning or did you drink something cool prior to the reading? At any rate take the antibiotics prescribed, consider doing saline washes up to 5 times a day, and I find motrin works better than tylenol (acetaminophen) pain.

5 yr old diag with sinus/left ear infection. 100.5 temp. No cough, very congested. Dr said no flu like symptoms or strep symptoms, so no test. Worry?

Depends: How long have they been sick? If it has been a day or two then they may get better on their own. If 5-7 days, then they may need treatment. Especially if they think there is sinusitis, the complications can occur quickly. Either way I would use nasal saline a couple times a day to help thin secretions.

Is it possible to get some kind of strep infection from my boyfriend performing oral sex on me when he had it? I am a woman

Is it possible to get some kind of strep infection from my boyfriend performing oral sex on me when he had it? I am a woman

Low risk: The kind of streptococcus bacteria that infect the throat (like group A strep) rarely take hold in the female genital tract, but could cause pubic area skin infection. You should be on the lookout for soreness or irritation, most likely in the pubic area more than the vulva, labia, etc. If you get such symptoms within a few days, see a doctor. If no symptoms, I wouldn't worry about it.

Are there stages to a Strep infection?

Not really: There are not specific stages to a strep infection. Common symptoms of strep throat include throat pain, fever, body aches, headache, pain with swallowing, and swollen glands. If you are experiencing these symptoms, you should go to your pcp for a rapid strep test. There are also many viral infections that can cause similar symptoms, but strep throat should be ruled out by a provider.

How can I decrease the risk of my baby getting a group b strep infection?

OB's follow protocol: The frequency of invasive group b strep disease has declined since the adoption of surveillance and treatment protocols by ob's & peds. Since gbs can come & go, most moms will be screened at 35-37 wks & receive abx during labor if positive, if status unknown she will be treated & babies are monitored & tested for a specific period after delivery. Discuss your concerns with your ob.

Strep: Hello, the numbers you are describing are not considered a fever. In general 100.4 and greater is considered a fever. The number you are describing is a normal variation of day to day temperatures. If you are feeling ill or are not improving please get checked out.

Help! Could strep infection cause sciatica?

Help! Could strep infection cause sciatica?

No: Pain in the distribution as you suggested describes the pattern of the nerve that travels in the leg called the sciatic nerve. The sciatic nerve is not the cause of the pain source, it is the result of an irritated nerve typically in the lumbar spine (low back) which are caused by herniated disks, spinal stenosis or degenerative disc disease requiring further evaluation by a spine specialist.

Are strep b infections and bladder infections connected?

Are strep b infections and bladder infections connected?

Not commonly.: Your overall resistance to other binfections e.g. Bladder infections can be reduced if you have a strp infection elsewhere. Strp bladder infections are very uncommon unless you self catheterize intermittently or have an indwelling catheter.

What is a strep yeast infection?

What is a strep yeast infection?

Hmmm?: I have not heard that term before. If I had to guess it would be due to someone taking antibiotics for a strep infection. This could then be followed by overgrowth of yeast as certain bacteria are killed off or reduced in #.
