How long after getting proper dose of synthroid (thyroxine) should I begin to feel less symptomatic? Last tsh was 23.
Usually on the order: Of two to three weeks. But I should warn you there are some patients that some neuromuscular and psychiatric symptoms can take months to resolve. It's also possible that some symptoms thought to be related to hypothroidism like fatigue or weight, may in fact be related to other factors/issues, even when the hypothyroidism is corrected.
Does generic of Synthroid (levothyroxine) disperse the dosage equally throughout pill. I'm on 75mcg so if I cut in half will I get 37.5mcg?
It's not the: Cutting in half that's a problem, as even if the cut is uneven it won't matter since the half-life of T4 is 7 days and the doses will overlap. The problem is that the generics aren't as reliable and the dose and potency will vary every time you get a new prescription, or the pharmacy changes suppliers, or with age and storage of the rx, etc. It is better and safer to stick w/brand name t4.See 1 more doctor answer
Yes: Sure, if it is too much. Have your doctor measure serum T4 and tsh, and adjust the dose.
Weeks: You may start to feel a difference in 1-2 weeks, but you need to give a new dosage 6 weeks before rechecking thyroid blood levels.
Now I increased my dosage to 200mg of thyroxine. Will it be sufficient to improve my level orelse am I required to do something else.
Thyroid: It depends. You need to wait a bit and then have your levels rechecked. Your doctor will adjust the dose accordingly. If your TSH is still high at that point, then you might need a referral to an endocrinologist. I've seen people react differently to generic levothyroxine vs synthroid more than any other med so that might be something they'll consider.
I've been overmedicated on synthroid (thyroxine). I've been on a lower dosage for 2.5 weeks and still have symptoms. When will I feel better?
May take time...: It all depends on how the levels of your thyroid hormone were at the time you had the medication adjustment. If the levels were significantly abnormal it may take a few weeks to feel completely "normal" again since this medication changes its distribution in your body at a very slow pace. However, if you start feeling worse make sure you see your doctor soon for check up.
I am taking Synthroid (thyroxine) 25 mg. I have been loosing weight. I don't think this dosage is high enough. And why am I loosing weight.
It may affect cycle: Thyroid medication is given to optimize thyroxine hormone so as you have regulated metabolism of entire body. Having low or high level of thyroxine has its consequences in your metabolism. Most common body systems affected are cardiovascular, GI and reproductive organ. You may have menstrual irregularity with low or high thyroxine hormone with manifesting either bleeding or amenorrhea.
How long does Synthroid (thyroxine) dosage change take to work? I'm 13w pregnant & just found out it's way too low so I'm worried I'll misscarry.
When pregnant, my dr changed my levoxyl (thyroxine) from 50 to 75. It's been 7 months since I had my baby and I'm still on 75. Should I check on dosage?
Yes: It would be a good idea to get it checked as levels and dosage requirements often change with pregnancy.
What is the typical dosage for a new patient with hypothyroidism going on Synthroid or levothyroxine?
Depends: Since you were just diagnosed, you should work closely with your doctor to find the proper dose of levothyroxine. The dose is based on the level of your thyroid function tests. And it is calculated based on your weight. So the range of the dosage is listed as from 50 mcg to 200mcg a day. So you see that it is not possible to answer your question as precisely as you may wish. Please ask your doctorSee 1 more doctor answer

Hello doctor, I am on Synthroid (thyroxine) 150mcg want to switch to nature-throid what dosage should I start on?
There is no: "nature" thyroid. What you're referring to is ground up pig parts, which is not very natural and not standardized on the basis of thyroid content and can't be evaluated with routine thyroid testing. Stick with the brand name synthroid (thyroxine) product at the proper dose. It's an exact duplicate of what you need, anda much better and safer product. Don't get your medical info from friends, tv or the interne.
55yo been on 75mcg Synthroid (thyroxine) but TSH has gone from 2.6 to 4.6 over the last year. The RN inc'd dosage to 88 mcg, is that enough? Feel better <3.0 tsh
Personally: I would not give synthroid (thyroxine) to my dead dog. As a MD I take Armour Thyroid, porcine desiccated thyroid; my last five years. For a detailed explanation go to www. Mercola. Com search diagnosis and treatment of hypothyroidism. You need a Serum Free T3, Free T4 and TSH. Armour Thyroid is far superior. Also search Mercola. Com 'Armour thyroid"See 1 more doctor answer
Possibly: Treating hypothyroidism (underactive thyroid) with synthroid (thyroxine) is common. To monitor treatment effectiveness, your doctor will check a thyroid stimulating hormone (tsh). If your TSH is high, your thyroid is till underactive, and you may need your synthroid (thyroxine) adjusted accordingly, etc. Kidney failure may cause your medications to "stay in your system longer, " but tx is based on the tsh. Good luck.
Tsh is 0 048 T4 12 3 on 100 mcg Synthroid (thyroxine) dr decreased my dosage to half is this correct?
Can thyroid gland recover its normal function, if the gland totally lost its function, what dosage of Synthroid (thyroxine) should be taken?
Check TSH: Your thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH) level needs to be checked first, and accordingly start on a reasonable dosage of thyroid supplement (synthroid), then needs close follow up to titrate your dosage. Once a reasonable and stable dosage is found, you still will need to monitor the level every 6 months.
I have anxiety. My TSH is 4.25. It reads in the normal range, but dr. Put me on synthroid (thyroxine). As dosage increases, so does my anxiety.
Check with your Dr.: Not enough information to give an opinion.
On 75 mcg Synthroid for 8 months and TSH is. 7, FT4 1.46, FT3 3.3 but still wake at 2am. Lower T4 dosage, wait it out or investigate cortisol issues?
