I tested at a level of stage 3 kidney disease last week (gfr 43). What is the likelihood when retested this week that it would be "normal?"

Class 3 CKD: Your question is better answered by a nephrologist (n). At your age, it is not likely your GFR will improve. For a 77 year old female, you have well preserved kidney function. Improvements are possible in a low grf if there is some reversible cause responsible for it. Patients on advil-like drugs can have improved renal function if they come off them, for example. See a n for more information. ...Read more

Help! could stage 3 kidney disease cause constipation?

I'm in stage 3 Kidney Disease w/ large renal angiomyolipomas bilaterally. My doc has no fluid restrictions. I drink 3-4 liters H2O daily. Too much?

Sounds fine: Water isn't a burden on your kidneys. Only late in the course of kidney failure will there be a need to restrict, for the sake of the rest of your body. Hopefully that won't happen. Do look for a cause of your renal insufficiency other than your TS / lipomas. If it's just loss of renal mass from compression, ACE inhibitors might slow progression. Keep learning & glad you asked. ...Read more

Tramadol: In my experience, tramadol will not be the drug of choice to effectively alleviate your lower back pain as a result of 2 levels of lumbar disc herniation. Contact your prescribed physician to discuss for possible medication modification. If your physician is uncomfortable to prescribe controlled narcotic pain medication, have him or her refer you to a pain management specialist. ...Read more
