Hi, I have splinter hemorrhages on both thumbs but have no other symptoms. Can this be endocarditis.
Possible - unlikely: Splinter hemorrhages can be a sign of endocarditis, although they will generally then appear with lots of other signs and symptoms. I have 15 splinter hemorrhages. No other symptoms. However, last week, i had extreme aching in my left lower leg that i've had a previous dvt. Clue?

They come from clots being thrown to the periphery and going through the small arteries that can happen in infection of heart valves or in vasculitis. Splinter hemorrhages: Are not uncommon. Most common cause is repeated trauma (it can be trivial) to the nail bed. The classic case is when they are seen in endocarditis.
