Started taking Paxil (paroxetine) for severe panic attacks and IBS symptoms...Concerned about side effects and weight gain. Will i definitely gain weight on paxil (paroxetine)?
Not to my knowledge: Though it is not listed as one of the primary side effects, it is certainly possible. I usually advise my patients that if they should notice that they are eating more due to a given medication, they should probably keep healthy snacks such as fruits and vegetables. No medication will make you want to eat chocolate or fried foods, the choice is yours. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Typical IBS symptoms: As you suspect, these symptoms indeed are consistent with irritable bowel syndrome. But they aren't particularly suggestive of proctitis (inflmmation of the rectum). So I suggest you raise these questions with the doctor who diagnosed IBS then follow her advice. Good luck! ...Read more

Can IBS change to something else? Years ago had the classic symptoms but they changed as i got older. From my 30`s to 40`s.
Maybe: I have many patients with ibs. They try to manage it with how and what they eat and medication. It is nerve wracking to have cramps and always need to know where the nearest restroom is. I have sent some patients to a psychologist to help them deal with this problem. Anxiety aggravates ibs. As we age many problems seem to multiple adding fuel to the fire. Get a colonoscopy now to ease your mind. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
