What are the symptoms of low iron levels in men?

What are the symptoms of low iron levels in men?

Why do you ask?: If a man feels tired or has diminished exercise tolerance, anemia is a consideration. It needs to be investigated by a physician. Self-treatment by taking iron will simply mask the cause of iron deficiency, which especially in a man is a bleeding ulcer or stomach cancer until proved otherwise. If the guy is iron-deficiency from vegetarianism, he needs to wise up and supplement. Best wishes. ...Read more

I took a blood test a year ago and my hemoglobin was 12.5 which is normal however I experience all symptoms of low iron and it gets worse after period?

Need to examine: If you have heavy bleeding during menstruation, you could have lost enough blood and iron over the past year that you may be anemic now. You may wish to see your doctor and get tested again. Alternatively you could take oral iron and multivitamin supplements, available over the counter. If iron causes constipation, take pills with meals and take a fiber laxative like Metamucil + plenty of water.
For good health - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Drink enough water daily, so that your urine is mostly colorless. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Do not use tobacco, alcohol, weed or street drugs in any form.

I am donating plasma and my iron is low, i take 260 mg a day to keep the level needed to keep donating, is this ok? I am 49 female.

If : If you are replacing your iron stores with 260mg of iron a day, and this gets you to the acceptable range then i would assume you are not anemic. On the other hand, I am not sure what level the plasma bank uses for their cut off. For this reason, you should see your doctor for a complete anemia panel, you may actually need more iron. Also be aware of the side effects of iron supplemantation. This includes stomach upset and pain, constipation or diarrhea, nausea, and vomiting. Please continue to be screened for anemia by your doctor if you are going to continue donating plasma. Best of luck. ...Read more

Is an iron level of 44 low enough to cause symptoms of constant tiredness?

Unlikely by itself:: Too ? iron for RBC production by bone marrow, resulting in anemia could (in turn) result in ?ed heart rate & breathing with activity, fatigue, etc. It is the anemia (?ed ability for the blood to carry oxygen) which results in the fatigue, when this exists, not just ?ed iron per-se. For marketing reasons, many issues which could be relevant (if severe enough) are promoted as primary cause; "cures". ...Read more
