Why do you ask?: If a man feels tired or has diminished exercise tolerance, anemia is a consideration. It needs to be investigated by a physician. Self-treatment by taking iron will simply mask the cause of iron deficiency, which especially in a man is a bleeding ulcer or stomach cancer until proved otherwise. What are symptoms of low ferritin? What tests should I have ran besides this to see if there is an iron issue?
More info needed: Ferritin is storage iron--as if you keep going to your pantry and taking things out, but you do not replace --you run low--and the pantry empties. Serum iron and iron saturation on protein are other useful tests. Anemia, fatigue are also seen with iron deficiency--may be associated with menstrual blood loss and insufficient iron replacement by diet or iron supplement. Check with your doctor. ...Read more

Unlikely by itself:: Too ? iron for RBC production by bone marrow, resulting in anemia could (in turn) result in ?ed heart rate & breathing with activity, fatigue, etc. It is the anemia (?ed ability for the blood to carry oxygen) which results in the fatigue, when this exists, not just ?ed iron per-se.
