Symptoms of liver regeneration?

Symptoms of liver regeneration?

I agree however: I agree w/the previous answer, however we need more information. If you are asking about being a donor or recipient of a living donor liver transplant, the liver can regenerate back to nearly a full size liver in about 6 weeks depending on many factors. In general, with this situation, lab tests can be followed to see how much "liver regeneration" is occurring; you should start feeling stronger. ...Read more

WHOA!!!: Please forgive my frankness. You owe it to yourself to find out why your liver function tests (i assume) and bilirubin are abnormal. My own bet is that this is your wake-up call -- you are drinking more than is good for you. Retest after you stop, or as your physician advises. Please do this, if not out of respect for yourself, then for those who love you. Best wishes. ...Read more

How can the liver regenerate?

How can the liver regenerate?

Nicely if you let it: The liver's ability to self-heal is amazing. If a person who's been poisoned and lost 99% of the liver cells can be brought through the acute episode, the liver cells will have replaced themselves and the organ returned to near-normal in a few weeks. Don't get over-confident -- if the architecture is damaged (cirrhosis), the regeneration is useless. ...Read more

How much damage can liver regenerate?

It's amazing: After a poisoning or acute hepatitis with 99% of the liver cells gone, they'll replace themselves in a few days. Ultramarathon runners routinely sustain extensive necrosis of liver cells and have them back in equally short order. However -- don't get smug; alcohol abuse and other unfortunate things can scar up the liver and this doesn't heal nearly so well. ...Read more
