What is klebsiella pneumonia?

Klebsiella cause infections of many organs. Some have become highly antibiotic resistant producing extended-spectrum beta-lactamases and carbapenemases which can be exceedingly difficult to treat. ...Read more

Is klebsiella pneumonia in urine dangerous?

Is klebsiella pneumonia in urine dangerous?

Not necessarily: It is a common organism such as e. Coli. The bug by itself isn't dangerous unless it is a drug resistant strain, but you would likely see that in someone who had recurrent utis, indwelling urinary catheters, etc. Some people also harbor bacteria in their urine and do not necessarily have a UTI (called asymptomatic bacteruria). ...Read more

Piperacillin/tazobactam IV will kill klebsiella pneumonia bacteria?

Piperacillin/tazobactam IV will kill klebsiella pneumonia bacteria?

It may but...: It depends on the resistance profile of specific strain of klebsiella. Many strains acquired in the 'community' are very sensitive to almost all antimicrobials except penicillin and Ampicillin and certainly sensitive to piperacillin/tazobactam. However, especially when acquired in a hospital, klebsiella can be quite resistant to therapy including pip/tazobactam. ...Read more

In your case, you have been treated because this bavteria was found in a part of your body it should not have been inhabiting (the lungs). Therefore, as long as it is not one of these bacteria that has become highly resistant to several types of antibiotics, then transmission to your partner is not w major issue. ...Read more

Sensitivity to meds: iys not the strain. Usually when they do cultures they check which antibiotics will work for it and which have resistance. That can help treat the infection properly. Some people who are prone to UTIs, can get same bacteria over and over. Talk to your doctor what can be done to prevent recurrences. ...Read more

My vagina itches & becomes red when I have vaginal discharge. Small bumps in the vaginal opening. Urine culture report:1)e coli 2)klebsiella pneumonia?

See answer: It appears you likely have two separate problems: both a UTI (urgency, frequency, burning with urination) and a vaginitis (discharge, redness, itching/burning). Most common causes of vaginitis: yeast, bacterial vaginosis, and trichomonas. I would recommend appropriate antibiotic for UTI bacteria and accurate diagnosis of vaginitis with std screening to determine appropriate vaginitis treatment. ...Read more
