Many symptoms...: While this could be a sign of a herniated disc, it sounds a little more like facet arthritis as it does not radiate to different areas and does not have a constant dull ache. That being said, a physical exam and imaging would be necessary to be sure. Radiculopathy: Most herniated disks will get better on their own, however if the symptoms worsen after conservative treatment then other methods should be investigated. Surgery is an option when weakness, pain and sensory loss all correlate to the location of the disk herniation. Usually physical therapy, steroid injections and other methods are employed first. Not likely, c a doc: A herniated disc causing so much pain with radiculopathy (pain spreading down the leg) needs evaluation by gp or orthopedist or back specialist). If u already know u have a herniated disc, this represents an acute inflammation or strain of muscles near the disc and requires anti-inflammatory therapy, etc, or a tumor pressing on nerve, first c a doc, then doc will decide on referral or x-rays, etc. ...Read more
