It is possible: Cracked rib/sternum is common in mva in driver hitting chest on steering wheel or even the air bag, especially if you are older and have thin and brittle bones. Fractures typically cause quite a bit of pain right after trauma. If pain slowly came on 1-2 days after the mva, likely it is strain/contusion rather than fracture. Heart attack can cause this type of pain. Please consult doc. Good luck. ...Read more

Costal cartilage : The most common cause of the popping sensation you describe is separation of the cartilage on the ends of the ribs from the sternum. There are many reasons this can happen but the important fact is that it has no medical significance. occasionally this condition can be accompanied by pain which is best treated with NSAIDs like Ibuprofen. In the absence of pain there is no need to worry. ...Read more

Tough to say: Without an exam, really tough to tell, but guesses would be costochondritis, musculoskeletal strain/sprain, pyrosis (heart burn), esophogitis, anxiety, heart issues, etc. Best for you to get dr to evaluate you. Good luck. ...Read more
