Symptoms Of Carotidynia
I need help with very bad pain along my carotid please help. I think it's carotidynia but I can't get any diagnosis please help.
I have IIH, migraines and carotidynia. My carotidynia is extremely bad at the moment. Why do I have all of these conditions? What's the common theme?
My neurologist has me on gabapentin for my chronic carotidynia. It hasn't helped at all, and she just keeps upping the dosage. Is there an alternate?
Yes.: The treatment depends whether it is migrainous, arteriosclerotic or classic. Th drugs that have been used are Indomethacin and prednisone. It seems worse during the cold weather. Prophylactic medications are propanolol, methysergide or ergotamine. Tell your neurologist that the meds are not helping. ...Read more
I am having pain in neck till my forhead on right side only. Ent dr said everything is fine ans suspect carotidynia. What is that exactly. Thank in adv
Carotid pain: This is an uncommon cause of neck pain. It is a clinical diagnosis that the doctor probably made because you had tenderness in that area. If you are on Prednisone for this condition, speak with your doctor and see if there is anything else you could take instead. Prednisone has a lot of potential side effects. ...Read more
Can anyone tell me about carotidynia as a subset of vasculitis/arteritis in relation to ctd? Evidenced by high crp/enlargement of carotid bulb/pain
May not be arteritis: Carotidynia may not necessarily be related to arteritis. The elevated CRP and possibly other lab could suggest arteritis. I would suggest looking for takayasu disease. But this carotid pain can also be due to myofascial noninflammatory. ...Read more

It occurs from dilatation of extracranial arteries on that side. It may be due to a virus, but careful progressive elimination of other conditions must be done. Takayasu arteritis is diagnosed by biopsy. ...Read more

History of migraines & carotidynia, having carotid headaches all day everyday for almost a week, today had headache w/ metallic taste in mouth. Ideas?
Metallic taste: A metallic taste usually means that the nerve that helps with taste has been inflamed by whatever process that is causing the headaches. Migraines do not typically cause carotidynia. Carotidynia is a diagnosis of exclusion. This means that it is usually the last diagnosis after other processes have been ruled out. It is an inflammation of the carotid sheath and is painful to manipulation. ...Read more
Severe migraines along side IIH. Monthly bouts of carotid artery pain R side, ear and temple, lightheaded. Normal MRAs. Could this be Carotidynia?
Yes, possibly: Your symptoms could be carotidynia, but could also be a variant of 1) temporomandibular syndrome, or 2) temporal arteritis, or 3) neuropathy of the trigeminal nerve, maxillary branch. Please see your doctor. If this is for chlamydia, you can take a one time 1 gram dose of azithromycin instead of the doxycycline so that you do not miss doses. If it is for PID you may need the Doxy.
Also you shouldn’t have sex for 10 days after starting treatment to prevent sending the infection back and forth with your partner ...Read more
