Benadryl (diphenhydramine): Benadryl (diphenhydramine) can help reduced the swelling but it has the side effect of making you sleepy. You can try Claritin or Zyrtec. Might be a HERPES SIMPLEX ("Cold Sore") with infection (thus the pus) Suggest you check this out and in the meantime apply wet compresses and a anti-bacterial ointment (ask Pharmacist for recommendation) If it is herpes more SPECIFIC anti-VIRAL medication may be indicated!
